We are flying into NY for Indoc on July 4th. We get there at 1:30 so we have some time. Where is the best place to go to watch fire works? Is there a good place on Long Island or should we go into NYC? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Fire works

The best fireworks are the Macy's fireworks. I believe this year they are going to be on the Hudson River. You need to be on the west side on Manhattan for viewing.

Another option is Jones Beach, but be prepared for lots of traffic both to and from the fireworks.

Best views are from the lower tip of Manhattan - either Hudson River or East River is fine. Tried to watch last year from about 40th Street and wished we had taken the subway much further down. Go very early, i.e. 6-7 pm as it gets very crowded - bring water, snacks, etc. plus something to sit upon, i.e. towel, blanket - no room for chairs. If you happen to know anyone with an office in lower Manhattan, call them and beg an invite. It really starts around 9:30 pm. Check Macy's website for possible details.
