500 USMA Appointments Mailed Out Today

No BFE today...feeling anxious/dejected

DD has LOA from August, Congressional and Senatorial nominations everything is complete, all conditions met. Was so hoping today was the day for her.

Congratulations to everyone that's heard it must feel amazing!!

Today my mom showed up at softball conditioning halfway through. Since I drive myself, I freaked out, wondering "oh geez, what did I do this time." My mom walked over to the fence and told my coach she needed to speak with me. I walked over to behind the dugout where my mom was standing. What happened next I will never forget. She pulled a BFE out from behind her back and the tears began flowing immediately. I was so honored to not only receive an appointment to USMA (my #1 school) but also for the opportunity to share this moment with my team. This wouldn't have happened without all the great advice I received on this forum. Thank you all & GO ARMY, SINK NAVY

AND your mom!

Nice of you to share and classy to thank SAF contributors.

Hang in there. BFE could still be on the way. DS got a congratulatory call from MOC on Tuesday morning but is still waiting for his BFE.

Exactly the same situation here, identical! Then phone call came about a week ago... Request for video evidence of push-ups and pull ups. Done, uploaded, back to waiting...

My DS was lucky enough to get a BFE in this first wave. We coincidentally had a visit planned tyesterday to USMA to shadow a cadet, etc. Even though he went to SLE we wanted him to have as much info as possible to make his decision. We were able to walk around knowing he had an appointment and really start picturing him there.

There were a few seniors in the briefing who had not received any news, were able to check in with admissions on their status .

The admissions staff pointed out to all of them this was only the first wave. The MAJORITY of the class has yet to be appointed. They know that some of the nominations weren't in yet. I very much got the impression that the first wave were recruited athletes, very top academically.

Stay hopeful, there are alot more to come!

Well the 500 appointments constitute 41.67% of the class...if one considers that approximately 100 to 300 more appointments had been tendered prior to this admissions wave you're looking at 50% to 66.67% of the class of 2021 having been already offered an appointment. Even when one considers that roughly 85-90% accepts the offer appointment, the percentage of slots taken up only drops to 43-58%. (Excuse my rounding and estimation).

Never give up hope, but aggressively pursue all other options at this point.

What makes the analysis hair-tearing-out for all the SAs:
- there is no way of knowing how many total appointments will be offered, as I believe a certain percentage over and above are offered to provide a cushion against declinations, and at some point the "we're done" light comes on
- there is no way of knowing what the precise target range is for each class
- there is no way of knowing how many will decline, since appointment offered does not necessarily equal appointment accepted, as a constant. That may or may not impact later offers.
- there is no way of knowing how many are just waiting for one thing to be cleared
- all the categories of noms are coming to the finish line at different rates
- prep schoolers and MAPSters, another unknown later in the pipeline
- and many more crazy-making factors

There are manpower analysis professionals who use predictive models, based on past offers/acceptances, who labor over these challenges. Bless their hearts.

It's a fluid, dynamic process, and much hard work and thought goes into it by Admissions and decision-makers.

Best of luck to all.

My Plebe was led to believe that USMA will be expanding its numbers over the next couple of years. I am not sure who told him that, or how reliable that info is. This surprised me, but on the other hand his 2020 class was large, and the new barracks opening next year is very large, and old barracks are being remodeled. Not sure why they would need so many more rooms if not expanding numbers.
