529 monies were used for the $2,900 deposit (it's lower now) and we had a ... check sent directly to the USMA Treasurer FBO John Doe. they are extremely helpful in the USMA treasurers office. (845) 938-4262
If your DS/DD is already appointed, I would suggest you read up on the "top off" process. I understand that families regurlarly send 529 monies to the cadet accounts and any excessive amounts are forwarded to the cadet ...the next October. I think. YMMV Do some reading on that.
