My DS just completed his fall senior year and is a candidate. I know he is already 3Q but wondering if it would help his WPS to send updated transcripts. He did well- not perfect....
A- physics
A-government
B-AP calculus
B- AP Literature
A- survey art ( required by HS for grad)
A- student government

The 2 B's are weighted A's so weighted GPA is 4.0 but unweighted like a 3.67? The calculus B is one of the highest in his class believe it of not! He currently is ranked 19/425, UW 3.94 and W 4.0. These grades are not really better then his typical record but they do show that he stayed motivated senior year and challenged himself with college level classes. I have been reading threads of kids who recieved C's in Ap calculus and even students who are dropping classes because they are struggling. Although a B is not an A, it does show he can handle the classes.

Do you think sending transcripts could help him or hurt him being he did not earns straight A's? Thoughts or comments?

I guess the help or hurt depends on what it does to the overall rank and GPA. My guess is if your DS is like my DD this fall and the Bs (3 in her case) in AP classes were more than in the previous 3 years it shouldn't hurt. However, according to the AFA Candidate Handbook, the AFA requires the updated transcript if your application was completed before the end of the Fall semester. My guess is they are looking to see if you took the classes you said you were going to and if so didn't bomb them. A couple of Bs in AP classes I just can't imagine hurting. Anyone know if the USNA requires the Fall transcript as well? We will be at the CVW in a couple weeks so I guess we can ask then also.

I assumed all candidates - including those who have already received an appointment - had to submit their semester grades. Is that not the case? Do you only have to submit your entire year's grades come June?

I know for certain it is true for USMA. I can't imagine it wouldn't also be true for USNA.

From what my DS was told, he would need to send his final transcripts if appointed and attending. It was not addressed about 7th semester grades for candidates waiting for a BFE or TWE. Anyone in the know who can clarify this? And if this is not required for admissions purposes, still hoping for some feedback on my original post and if these grades could be beneficial to send?

One more question... I read on another thread that admissions does consider GPA but only class rank? Is that true?

Wondering about 7th semester grades as well. For submission to USNA Admissions office from DS's high school guidance counselor as soon as the grades are out...this week perhaps...
