Hello

I just finished my 7th semester and I made a C in AP Calc BC. I'm wondering how big of an impact this will have on my chances. My GPA is 3.93 unweighted, 4.93 weighted. I go to an IB school and take a pretty tough course load of AP and IB classes. I'm not making excuses or asking for a "chance me", I'm just hoping someone can let me how big of a problem this is.

Thanks in advance.

Have you already submitted your transcript? If you submitted your transcript that ended your Junior year and you gpa is that high (assuming 3.93 on a scale of 4.0) they SA will not request you 7th semester grades. They only ask for 7th semester grades, by exception. If you have not submitted your transcript and the transcript you submit has that C in Calc, it will have a negative impact. How big, I don't know if anyone will be able to answer that.

I already submitted my transcripts so I guess that's good news?

I found this old post by @murfthesurf .

I can tell you what is more critical for many USNA Applicants BEFORE the offer and this situation has probably surprised many after it was too late:

A friend of my DS had his 7th Semester Grades kill his package at Admissions. Yet, USNA Admissions did NOT request his 7th Semester Grades !

Unbeknownst to the friend, his High School *automatically* sends out 7th (and 8th) Semester Grades to all the Schools :director: that each kid at the school has applied.

:eek3::eek3: Most of the kids at the HS, including my son, did not know of this follow-up policy ! :eek3: :eek3:

The friends poor 7th semester performance cost him key Application support of a USNA Team and a Foundation back-up offer. He was TWE'd last week.

so the lesson is..if you didn't do so hot in your 7th semester, make sure the counseling office doesn't send out those grades?

If USNA wants your 7th semester grades, they'll ask. If you aren't asked for them, the assumption is that they won't make a difference either way. That said, if they were terrific and you want to send them, go ahead. But make sure it is YOUR decision, not that of your school.

As an aside, I'm not sure why Murf believed that the unrequested 7th semester grades sank the application, unless they were absolutely terrible (Cs, Ds and Fs). Sadly, we can no longer ask him.
