I went online to check my portal status today and noticed that it changed from App on file to HOLD.

Did this happen for anyone else?

This was told to me by Alumni friends of mine last year when I was going through the application process.

USMMA is required (by law) to offer admission to applicants based on their ranked order-of-merit by State. As candidate files are evaluated, some (whose overall standing is VERY high) are offered admission early-on (LOA), the majority, however, are placed in a "hold" status. Those candidates then wait until all applications are evaluated and rank-ordered. In the beginning of April when admissions has all completed files reviewed and sequenced, they make offers to fill the State quotas and then move to the National Waiting list. Hope this explanation helps. "Hold" status is a good thing and shows that your package was reviewed and found worthy to be competitive against others in your state....now they just have to review everyone else in your state and rank them before offers are made. It is a tireless waiting game.

Hope this helps!

Not all hold candidates have to wait until April for a decision. Some applicants who are more competitive can come off the hold list and receive an offer of admission at any time.

Those that are on “Hold”, have you passed the DoDMERB and have nominations? If so the wait is very long being that you are so far ahead of everyone else in the process. It’s a good thing.

I have everything in except my 7th semester grades(not out yet) and a nomination. Interviews should becoming out in early November.

Work on maintaining or improving your grades and any SAT or ACT scores. Work on activities, any other future accomplishments and update them on your portal and don’t be afraid to contact your admissions officer. Least but not last prepare yourself for nomination interviews.
