It has been quite the journey up to this point and I know much more to come, but I wanted to take a minute to reflect and say thank you. It has been my DS dream to attend a SA since he was very young. Last year at this time he got the news that he had not been accepted and was devastated. Like many, he had to move onto plan B. He attended a state school this year. He wasn't even sure it was worth it to reapply, but ultimately he decided to.

Fast forward to today and I am pleased to announce he has received a BFE from USMA, USNA, USAFA, and USGCA. Now he has a difficult, but welcomed choice to make.

With all that being said I wanted to say thank you for all the guidance, kind words, commiserating, and much more this forum has provided over the past 18-24 month. I will continue to be an active member of this forum and hope to be able to pay it forward for years to come.

Joyous news! An object lesson about grit.

So amazing! What a difference a year made for him!! What was the most important thing he did this last year that he thinks made him such an obviously competitive candidate?

Thank you very much. I think the two biggest things he did was maintain high grades his first semester of college. Having A’s in college level math and science while also playing a sport made a big difference. He also worked extremely hard on his physical fitness. CFA last year was right at average or slightly below. This year he was above average on all areas. Also being able to articulate what he learned through the setback during his BGO, ALO, Etc. interviews seemed to be important as well.

How awesome! Congratulations to your DS!!!

I was thinking about your son when I read that he declined his offer to USAFA. What a ride. I see so many people posting their disappointment and being more than upset about receiving a TWE. But here he is, one year later and 4 appointments in his pocket. Never give up, never surrender. And keep trying. My son's story is sort of similar and like many, you just need to keep trying. Good luck to him at USNA, we have many good friends over there and it is a wonderful place to be. But Air Force will keep beating them at football 🤣🤣

For sure when they're using 5th year players on the "Covid excuse" rules. . .

Thanks. It has been quite the journey so far. We are super excited and football season is right around the corner. :)

Salty much? 🤣🤣🤣🤣I didn’t even know about that until a friend told me. But if the rules allow them, well, it is fair hahaha

NCAA rules allow it but the SERVICE ACADEMIES are supposed to be on a 4 year plan.
USNA did not allow football players the extra year to graduate as it is a FOUR YEAR PROGRAM, not a FOOTBALL PROGRAM.

Yeah, I'm a bit salty on this one. As a grad who tries to conduct myself with honor, I'm the first one to object
when USNA does something I disagree with.

Totally understand, but don’t worry, this year we will not have those amazing players 🤣🤣
