Hey guys, I'm taking my CFA in mid-August and training for it throughout the next 6 weeks.

The rules for the sit-ups state: "Upon the command "GO", flex from the hip, raising the elbows so that they touch the front midpoint (or higher) of the thigh without finger tips losing contact with the top of the shoulders..." -- does this mean it is beneficial to reach my elbows as far as possible and do as little with my core as possible for max reps, or will my BGO (who is administering my test) not count them.

Also, the rules for the push-ups state: "May rest in the up position, flexing or bowing the back as long as hands and feet remain in contact with the floor, and no other body part touches the floor. Must return to the generally straight body position before attempting another repetition." -- I have extremely loose hamstrings and can touch my palms to the floor while standing straight relatively easily.. can I slide my hands up and essentially just stand with my hands on the ground as a rest? Seems like that wouldn't be allowed, but they don't specifically say it's not...?

Appreciate any help with this and I apologize if these have been asked before.

This is a video made by USMA Admissions on the CFA elements, proper form, rest positions, etc.

If a rest position other than what was stated was allowed, it would be included. It’s a standardized test, with standard elements, form, rules, etc.

Good luck! Be sure to practice the test every week or so in the exact order and with the allowed intervals, to see how you’re doing. It’s designed to test underlying stamina and general fitness, as well as different skills and strength.

If you haven’t already found it, LT Stew Smith’s CFA prep routine might be worth checking out, several google references.

Thanks so much for the response. I'm starting relatively low in terms of push-ups because before I started preparing for the CFA (about a week ago), I had barely done any upper body work -- my sport doesn't really use upper body strength believe it or not. I'm using the 6 weeks to 100 push ups program for pull ups, push ups, and sit ups, and figure I'll hopefully double everything I've got right now because I'm starting so low. (Beginner steroids!)

Starting with only 38 push ups, 60 sit ups, 7 pull ups, and a 5:45 mile.
