In addition to the A-Day parade and post activities, We heard that watching the kids march back from Jacks Valley is worth doing. Does anyone know where the dates/times are posted for this? The academic calendar is not specific.

Those dates won’t be released or determined for a bit longer.
As someone who recently worked bct at usafa, the schedule isn’t really predetermined until bct is right upon us.

In the recent past, the A-Day Parade has been the Tuesday after the Cadet Wing returns from Summer Break/Activities so if history repeats itself, it should be on Tuesday, Aug. 7th as the Cadet Wing returns on Saturday, Aug. 4th. Additionally, if history repeats itself, the BCT march back from Jack's typically occurs on the Thursday before the Cadet Wing returns so it should be on Thursday, Aug. 2nd.

Please be aware, there will not be any interaction with your cadet on the day the basics march back from Jacks Valley. My DS told me not be one of "those" parents that lined up on the side of the road in the hope of seeing their cadet for a couple of seconds during the march to or from Jacks Valley.

Thank you... We will watch the march back on webguy!

Also watch on the Kafa Facebook page. It’s run by Cadet photographers and professional photographers that work with yearbook.
(Kafa is free, but may not show everyone cuz we have other jobs to do as cadets)

Its a 15 second look at best as they march by. My advice is to let your young adult breath. They just completed for many what is the most difficult thing they have ever done physically and mentally. Cut the strings and let them revel in their triumph and independence. Save it for parents weekend.

Looking back, I think we did the right thing by sending my DS off himself for I-Day. He felt that it gave him the feeling of being himself. As parents, we attended his A-day to see him get his shoulder board and bring him stuff to start the school. After that, the parent weekend was great to have him over the weekend.

My view for what it's worth is if this is your first child going through the experience there are a lot of firsts. If you are not there in person, regardless of the magnitude of the event, you rely on others to take the pictures to capture the moment. They do a great job but there are a lot of cadets, and you may or may not see yours memorialized in film or video for that matter.

I didn't know or understand the calendar when my DD went through the I-Day to A-Day to Parent's Weekend events. The March back from Jacks Valley looks pretty cool. As it turns out, mine was nominated to be one of guidon bearers. In retrospect I wish that I had been there in person to get the perfect picture as I really enjoy taking pictures. If I had it all to do over again I would line the street and snap away just to capture the moment personally.

Once your child starts on their journey at I-Day you may or may not get letters, you may or may not get a phone call on doolie day out, and you may or may not find someone that looks like your cadet as they go through their daily training and you scroll through hundreds of pictures on webguy. If you want to go to the march back - I say go for it. I wish I had seen my DD carry the guidon back in person.

Our 2018 is graduating this May and heading to pilot training. We made a mini vacation in CO for 4-5 days over the weekend before A-day and decided at the last hour to watch the march back which I think was the Thursday or Friday before. The pride the 1200 or so soon to be C1Cs showed as they passed by was really cool to see. We had a great view of ours, got a great smile and a wave, and that was it. It was worth being there in conjunction with a longer visit.

How many days are there between the march back from Jacks and the acceptance parade, usually?

For 2021, March back was Aug 3rd and A Day was Aug 8th. A-Day was the 2nd transition day. If pattern holds true, as KMTDad stated, 2022 is "likely" marching Aug 2 with A Day Aug 7th.

Thank you. Might be a good week to plan a vacay.
Just keep in mind you might catch a glimpse of your DS on the March but you will not be able to speak with him that day and possibly not until A-day. Each squadron will be different as to when the Basics get their phones back. Parent's Weekend comes quickly after and if at all possible, you will want to be there!

+1 2021 mom... I know a family that did the vacation around A-day. They caught a 2-second glimpse of their DD on the march back from Jacks Valley, joined her for a church service at the Air Force Cadet Chapel on 08/06, viewed the A-Day parade, and then spent ~2 hours with her on A-Day. Colorado Springs does have some fun spots for vacation activities, but be aware that you will have very limited opportunities to see or interface with cadets at this time.

I would not have missed A-Day for anything, but PW is generally a much better time for the family to spend time with their basic. (I would would not recommend bring a large extended family out for a cadet's first PW, but that's a different thread topic... )
