A few questions about USAF space operations careers

I'm a 13S at Peterson and have friends over at Schriever, feel free to PM me with specific questions about what the reserve squadrons do anything else you have questions about!

Hi! I should hopefully be commissioning in 2 years (spring 2019) and am interested in 13S Reserve / Guard positions, particularly in California where my family lives. Do you know what units are in that state? Also I'm new here, so sorry that I can't PM yet

gradcadet:

You might start here for Air National Guard in California: http://www.ca.ang.af.mil/careers/

and here for Air Force Reserve: https://afreserve.com/space-operations

The Air Force shut down Sunnyvale AFS/Onizuka AFS several years ago (that was where the majority of the "space ops" position used to be -- in the Sunnyvale area of Northern California) and moved most of that work to Colorado (Buckley AFB, Schriever AFB).

There are 13S active duty positions at Vandenberg AFB near Santa Barbara. Most of those positions are launch and launch Range related as opposed to satellite ops.

There are also active duty space related positions at LA AFB in the acquisition and engineering career since that is where the acquisition of space systems is done by the Air Force. There may be a few 13S positions but the majority will be 61X, 62X, 63X, 64X or 65X positions that may have 13S as a secondary AFSC.

Good luck with your search.
