A Parent's View of Sea Year

KP thanks for that sad and unfortunate bit of information. I will remember to pass that info onto my ds. Ds has never had issues w/ motion sickness, but he's been on big ships. As for the speeding tickets not being an issue. THEY are an issue, according to one Mid I know, who has graduated. He was driving thru a small town at 30 mph in a 25 mph zone at 2 am. when no one was out except for a cop w/ nothing else to do. (He knows to follow the law). Got pulled over. The long and short of it is that it would've been a big problem if he didn't fight it in front of a judge and explain the problems it would create for him. Shipping companies want to know their newbies can drive car and boat at correct mph.

Here is a bit of info about the ship. Remember, the position isn't always updated (as this one is four days old).

Sorry, but I don't find that totally believable. I'm not saying he didn't tell you that, but that perhaps his story was "stretched" a bit.

I have a $150 speeding ticket on my record (I think it was 68 in a 55) that I received as a mid while home on break - the one and only time I've ever been pulled over. It has never been a problem with either the USCG, USN and all of the companies I applied to, including my current employer. DUI's, drug offenses and similar convictions are definitely problems, but minor traffic offenses are not. Now, don't be an idiot behind the wheel, but don't believe the hyperbole either.

A bigger concern, just like KPEngineer and Cmakin have inferred, is all of the medical crackdowns happening now.
