A question for USNA parents...

I met a USNA mom the other day who mentioned that she still claims her yearling on her taxes. At USMA we received detailed information about determining if we could claim cadets during plebe year, and info on why we could not thereafter. I had just assumed all academies did this. She said, "I still support him, so I claim him." I was really too shocked to say anything, and I guess it's between her, God, and the IRS. So my question is: does USNA send info to parents about when/if they can continue to claim mids? I know, I know...MYOB...but I am just curious.

I don't know about now, but I know when I attended USNA my parents only recieved information about dates of family events and solicitations from the athletic association.

I guess they assume people should understand the tax laws, which I know for a fact most americans do not.

We received a good bit of info about who can claim cadets/how/when, etc. I am surprised Navy parents are not informed of same.
