Academic Classes

Wow I am not going to enjoy switching from block schedule to this confusing schedule. My schedule is basically a normal college schedule, right now.
 
yeah i hate a 7 class a day schedule until i moved and now i have four classes a day where i switch mid-year... now i'll be going back.. i'd have to say i like block scheduling
 
just like anything else in life... you'll get used to it. It will be the least of your worries here as a doolie...
 
Meh, I like the schedule. Having some free periods to relax during the day or get some work done is refreshing.
 
how many classes do you end up taking in a semester? and how many classes can you validate? i'll be finishing up this semester with 40 hrs of college credit.
 
Probably 5 classes first semester, then usually 6 plus PE and intramurals. If you validate you may have a couple more 5 class semesters.
 
Validated 28 credits here (9 classes). Let me take 4 classes for my Japanese minor and a couple extra classes for "fun" or the scholar's program requirement. Still have 2-3 5 class semesters. Lots of people end up having 7 class semesters, ESPECIALLY if they have to retake a course.

i'll be cycling through cobras this afternoon, and if eagle's there i'll be seeing him :) ahhh it should be a good workout
 
Is there any way of validating history classes? I read through the appointee instruction booklet, and I don't think history was mentioned. I just don't want to repeat the same history again.

Also, how do the honors courses work? I think you guys said they were called "Scholar's" classes, right? How do you get into them?

no, you have to take history, but there are only 2 core history classes.

scholars classes are for the top 60 academic performers in the class. usually, you'll be invited, but they sent out an email saying if we felt we should be in them and weren't, we could go talk to someone about it.

there are a few "scholars" on here, so they can answer more questions :)
 
yep, we have honors courses. pretty much all the same classes, just with an "H" at the end of them. they're harder. lol
 
There's only a couple of honor's ("H") courses, only math and physics I believe.

To qualify for scholar's ("S") classes, you must have an academic composition ENTERING the academy of 3600/4000 and a prog (mid-term) GPA of at least 3.6. I love the scholar's classes, which are helping for the upcoming UK grad school applications.

Could you clarify your question?

I wish I could have validated even more (if possible) and don't regret not taking any of the ones I did validate. I enjoy my schedule better and it gave me a lot more freedom.
 
3600/4000? I'm guessing they'll give you this in your WCS that I have yet to get :thumbdown:.

Hornet! I was thinking of taking Japanese, I would love to learn japanese. I dont think I would ever have another chance. Did you start this language at the academy or did you get there with previous knowledge? Would you recommend it or is it so ridiculously hard that I should just stick to Advanced/Native Spanish which is what I'm taking right now?

i've never seen my WCS, or ac composite. i'm sure i could find out, but they dont just tell you. i'm sure they dont want you going around comparing yourself to other people, asking "how'd they get in" etc etc

Sorry. I wasn't very clear. What I ment was, of the classes you were able to validate, were any of the follow-on courses you took particularly difficult? But you already answered that.
As a follow up though, does the Academy test you in all the subjects you took in highschool or do basic cadets request to be tested? For instance, I have taken both Japanese and Spanish so is there time for more than one language test? Also, do you still take tests for AP courses where you scored a 5?
