DS received this message in an email on Nov. 19. . . .our understanding is that he is still a viable candidate? His CFA and DODMERB are pass/qualified. . . .waiting to hear about nominations. What exactly is a HOLD? I've read conflicting info.

Almost every candidate who is eligible for appointment is put on hold status for anywhere from days to months. Hold is a good thing. It means you have essentially survived the first cut and are still in the running for an appointment. Once admissions makes a decision, your status will change to reflect either an offer of admission or a decline of offer of admission. The decisions come out individually or in bunches from now through March with some as late as April and May. I know the wait is excruciating. Hang in there and try to enjoy your remaining time with your DS. Good luck.

HOLD means fully qualified..now the wait to see how stacks up and if gets appointment. good luck!

Do multiple nominations (3) help if placed on hold?
A lot of the timing depends on the state you are from and how competitive the state is. When did you receive notice of the nominations? Remember that nominations are not due in until the end of January. Are the nominations showing up on the USMMA portal? If you are in a non-competitive state and are fully qualified, I would guess that you might have your answer sooner rather than later. Having received three nominations means that you are likely from a less competitive state. I would be cautiously optimistic if I were you.
