I will be attending Academy Day in my state next week. I was just curious on what I should wear? Obviously not sweats or anything too lax, but will jeans and a nice shirt be acceptable? Or would wearing slacks and a dress jacket be more acceptable? Thank you!

My advice is dress for the job you want, not the job you have. I would go slacks and dress shirt. Overdressed is better than underdressed. Take a notebook and a smile.

The Academy forum is where the journey started for my DS last year. DS wore slacks and a tie but not a jacket. Some kids were in suits and some were in shorts. (don't be the kid in shorts)

My DS started his journey attending an Academy Day during his 7th grade year. He wore slacks and a button down shirt. We thought at the time it was crazy attending when he was only a 7th grade. We were made to feel at ease when they told us starting that early was very beneficial. It was! He has attended our MOC Academy Day early year since the 7th grade. It was a great place to get information, learn about all the SAs and to make important contacts. Dress the part but remain comfortable.

Okay thank you. Another question; would it look bad if my mother went with me to Academy day? Or do you guys suggest I go on my own? Wanting to attend an academy is my own decision and my parents support me. I don't want the people hosting the academy day to think my mother is making me go.

That can go either way. There's no problem with your parents attending - just make sure you do the talking. Just as important to them is seeing that your family is behind you and will support your decision. Your parents are sacrificing a lot for you to reach your dreams, it's only fair that they understand what's going on.

Also, remember to send thank you notes/emails to the people you meet.

Most of the students have a parent with them. I went but when it came time to talk to the MOC reps and the academy reps. I backed off.
