academy entrance drug test

Look guys, everyone has made mistakes; if you have, you have to live with them and make your own choices about them. Just plain and simple, don't do drugs; it is never worth it. People have made mistakes they aren't proud of; everyone has done this, no matter how much you can and will deny it. Just do what you want...but make sure that what you are doing is the best solution for you.

yeah....dont eat poppy seed bagels or the cops will be on your butt as a heroine addict!

No parent thinks their kid smokes or drinks.

42.6% of 12th graders have smoked at least once.

A lot are wrong. I don't know if your kids did or didn't and its none of my business. I do find it interesting that you said they don't drink or smoke because they have big plans for the future. I guess most America doesn't have plans for the future. I guess 40 years ago when 18 year olds were allowed to drink none of them had plans. Like I said, I guess our founding fathers didn't have plans for the future.

It is questioning their integrity when you say that they are "fine with the poor decisions". He came asking for help. He obviously is not fine with his decisions. He would have simply lied if he did not care.

I am worked up because of how naive people are. Kids going to service academies are doing these things whether you want to believe it or not.

No, 57.4% of them have big plans :yllol:

The statistic I posted about 30% of parents not knowing that their child drinks points to me being correct. The other 30% who does know their child drinks still does not necessarily know how much or how often.

You're kidding right?
Sure there are lot of "waste of oxygen parents" out there but, there are also many more responsible parents that raised their children with integrity and self respect. Enough self respect and integrity that they resisted peer pressure and did the right thing as unbelievable as you think that might be. If you think you're shocking anyone here by saying that they don't know that about half of high school students lie to their parents, and get high on a regular basis, you're naive. We fully realize that goes on as we went to high school too

I can say that there are many parents out there who think their children don't drink or party at all and would have a rude awakening if they ever saw their kid's facebook pages!

YES!!! that is so very true

The bigger question is why aren't they friends with their kids on facebook?

let me clarify this i am currently 15 and thank you the people that were defending me. I've already read the "start young" part of west point. actually thats the reason why i did wrestling and rugby this year so i could start doing physical sports to get stronger and gain endurance. I joined my local venture crew and ran for i presedent but i lost =( im hoping to run again next election and i plan on joining key club next year. Im going on my 2nd church missions trip soon so as you can see im starting to meet the requirements to go to westpoint. I've talked to my guidance counselers and we've discusssed what i will need to do course wise and grade wise to insure im one of the best. oh and i live in MA so ya i know its illegal under federal law but i was just saying that its decriminalized under local law. Also i dont know where this part about me lying started but i cant lie on the papers to get in i wouldnt do that if i do get asked by them if i ever used marijuana im going to say yes i wont lie to them. and speaking as a kid you'd honestly be surprised by how many students do stuff haha where i go alcohol use (never used it) and drug use is rampant its sad to say but it is. And dixieland in case you were wondering you sound alot like you were questioning my integrity or pointing fingers you sound just like some kids at school that do bully me. Guess wat they say? They tell me ill never make it in westpoint much less the army and that because ive smoked marijuane im worthless even though they are complete pot heads so maybe thats why i got a little angry when you said stuff earlier i come looking for help but instead i meet an adult that acts just like a local bully so thanks you totally helped my self esteem and self confidence...

You have the right idea. Don't lie; that would be a bad start on the USMA honor code. Just don't do it again, work hard, and hope for the best. Good luck.

May I throw in my 2 cents.

First of all scoutpilot, i apologize in advance, but unfortunately as a teen teenage wisdom is all I can give at present, Once I gather the years of experience required, I personally guarantee that the situation will be rectified :shake:

Wyko, It seems to me your rather unapologetic about your use of narcotics. It doesnt really matter what the statistics are or if everyone is doing it. Fact of the matter is, if you go to a SA, you will be directly responsible for the lives of individuals. It is totally irresponsible to develop detrimental habits now that may carry over into you planned life as an officer. Is it really worth putting unnecessary risk on your soldiers simply to have a good time? I don't care if its legal or illegal. I have been asked by acquaintances at school to take part in legal narcotics, such as research drugs. These aren't illegal, but that inst the point. A good time is not worth writing a letter home to John Doe's mother because you developed a habit of losing control at 15. If you want to even think about the military, you have to get a new mindset. Drop the pot, drop the stoner friends.

Simply my two cents as a young almost new cadet. If im wrong, please correct me :shake:

and if potheads bullying you is a dent on your self esteem, how will you react to a cadre yelling at you?

thank you vampsoul and chewyoatmeal! yes i agree i guess i did come off as sounding unapolagetic but i am. that is the whole reason im here asking these questions after all. i have no idea wat detrimental means but if your talking about being addicted or constant use rest assured that is not the case. Im not addicted and i dont even use it anymore and as you put yes it would be quite irresponsible to put soldiers lives at risk just so i could get high or have a good time. let me correct you on one point though...i think everyone here is just assuming im continuing to use it but im not thats the reason im here. i was never a stoner i only used it around 10 times which isnt any excuse i know that. my whole point for being here though is wondering wether those 10 times make me disqualified from getting into westpoint. i havnt developed a habit of losing control ive seen the kids that are like that and there going no where in life. and to your last statement about cadre yelling well its there job there not bullying just for the fun or for kicks its there job plus i applied for and got excepted to a state troopers program which is a week long and is pretty much boot camp where they will be yelling. but again im asking if using marijauna in the PAST will disqualify me?

Honestly, are these serious posts? I can't even belive that we are discussing this with a 15 year old.

The kid is worried. He's smoked dope about ten times in the past. Will it be asked on the medical form? Will it be asked on the security form? If it is, is he disqualfied?

Answer: Respond to the medical form absolutely truthfully. If you do not, it's a felony. If you do not and you enter USMA and its found out afterward (such has when you need a higher security clearance and they investigate) you may get a dishonorable discharge on top of a felony conviction.

My appointee son just had to complete his first security form, which asked for names of neighbors and schoolmates to interview. The further down the path you go, the more likely it is that false denial on drug or alcohol use will be discovered.

How will DoDMerb and USMA respond to your answer? I don't know-- that's one for Mr Mullen. My impression is that the waiver authorities are as understanding as they need to be in the circumstances - they calculate the risk of a waiver along with everything else in your application, and an understanding of the maturation process of teenagers. Good luck!
