Academy focuses on diversity : Oversight board hears of work to recruit minorities

Maybe I'm not reading this correctly. I understand the differences you mention between men and women, the dropout rates and causes, and even the impact of so many leaving after their commitment. However, doesn't your conclusion apply to men AND women?

Did I miss something?

If you are trying to pay me back for confusing you by confusing me, you have done an outstanding job. I am not sure I have a side in this discussion. I was just pointing out that those who attend the Academy for reasons other than wanting to be there themselves for a military career, be it parents, heavy handed "recruiting, or whatever, seem to fall by the wayside.

Thanks on the congrats, especially worth it after jumping out a plane yesterday! :) :)

Jeez. What is it with you guys and jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. I had to deliver a roll of bubble wrap to the parents of a candidate who had just completed his first jump last week.

Been busy since, I have 3 jumps in now. 2 more for tomorrow. :) Absolutely love it!

Academy Seeking Minority Applicants

Goal Is to Mirror U.S., Navy Demographics

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/06/AR2007060600751.html

U.S. Naval Academy officials said they have been making steady improvement in the overall percentage of minorities inducted into the academy. They have, however, made little progress in the number of African Americans.

The Class of 2008 includes 69 black inductees, four more than in 1980. The class has 115 Hispanic midshipmen, compared with 35 in 1980, and 98 Asian Americans or other minorities, compared with 53 in 1980, according to figures presented Tuesday to the academy's Board of Visitors....
