OVERARCHING PRINCIPALS:
1) **In ALL cases, applicants, NOT PARENTS, should move out quickly/comprehensively on YOUR application for Admissions.**
2) Each Academy has their own policy on what is required BEFORE they send the applicant to DoDMERB, for DoDMERB and the applicant (NOT PARENTS) to begin their medical accession process.
3) Any and all questions regarding YOUR application, YOU (NOT PARENTS) need to ask Admissions at the specific Academy(ies) to which you applied. The only way YOUR medical exam process starts for that specific Academy, is to comply with whatever their Admission requirements are, pertaining to THEIR Academy process.
4) I will not answer questions on previous years or trends
5) **I will refer to this post/thread for questions regarding YOU, NOT PARENTS, as an individual.**

As of Close of Business today, since 1 Jul 2021, the Academies have transferred the following numbers of appicants to start DoDMERB/applicant processing for the Class of 2026:

West Point = 1464

USNA = 70

USAFA = 296

USCGA = 70

USMMA = 166

Okay...that's a bit more than I'd have "guessed" (my guesses and $1.08 in AZ gets you an XL Polar Pop at Circle K) for USMA and a lot less than I'd hoped for USAFA.

It's gonna get crazy for USAFA ALO's later this fall, as it will for DODMERB.

Strap in!!!

There’s a rollercoaster thread available over in the USNA forum. 🎢🎢🎢

Kinda strange to know that I'm apart of the 70 from USNA :)

Apart vs. A Part

  • Apart (one word) is an adverb that means separated by a distance. The one-word apart is usually paired with the preposition from.
  • A part (two words) is a phrase that means part of a larger group. The two-word a part is usually paired with the preposition of.

USMA did open their SSK a month before USAFA and USAFA is requiring 100% completion before forwarding to DODMERB. USMA isn't. My DS is applying to three SAs but got forwarded by USMA this week even though his USAFA and USMA apps are close in terms of completion. I'd be interested to see what those numbers are a month from now.

I was surprised that the USMA numbers were so high, though. I wonder if the number of apps is up this year. This is my first go around so I'm not sure what is typical.

DoDMERB opened our gates to ALL Academies on 1 Jul.

USAFA is NOT requiring the application to be 100% complete. They are requiring 100% of the application "under applicant control," be completed.

I didn't type that expecting/or needing to be corrected.

Thanks.

Just to point out, there are more than 70 USNA applicants who have completed a DoDMERB. There are USNA applicants who had their DoDMERB already initiated by USMA, for example. So this 70 doesn’t mean that ONLY 70 USNA’s exist. I believe it to mean that USNA has initiated 70. I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong.

If a USNA candidate had already completed the medical exam, USNA would not need to initiate one. Just a point of clarification to readers thinking there are only (at this point) 70 USNA candidates with a DoDMERB exam completed.

Also, as I understand, with the test optional year again, everyone receives a candidate number. So makes a lot of sense, as @Old Navy BGO already pointed out, that there will need to be a competitiveness factor filter for the DoDMERB exam. Vs how it’s been handled in the past (filtering is done before a person is made a candidate).

Oh thanks for the info!

Does that mean I'm considered competitive? Since I'm already scheduled

You and several thousands of others will compete for one of the approximately 1,250-ish appointments. Do not read into this, that you are any more or less competitive than any of those thousands of others. It means, at this point, that you are not a “no”. No more, no less.

Just like last year, there will be candidates appointed who have not had their DoDMERB until later.

Don’t read anything into this.

I ain't joking either lol... The person was up at 1:30 AM, and all they worried about was correcting my grammar.. I got my point across, that all I care.
Sorry, I was just trying to be helpful. Thought you might want to improve your grammar. I wasn't up at 1:30am, just because is 1:30am where you are doesn't mean it is 1:30am where I am. I am stationed overseas, as my father is in the Navy. Honestly wasn't trying to poke fun at you. Best of luck with your application process. Maybe we will we both be "a part" of the class of 2026 at USNA!

Honestly, being shocked into correct spelling is beneficial. I bet it sticks with you going forward: ‘a part vs apart’.

I still recall ‘*a lot* is two words’ from a similar instruction situation. You will write TONS at a SA, and as a JO (according to my son who hates writing 😂). So it’s a good thing!!
