Please advise what laptop is issued to cadets. Also is there preferred calculator? (My daughter has had a TI-84plus CE since middle school; worked well for AP/college math/science classes) Not planning to buy anything. Just curious.
Thank you.

I think the issued laptop can vary from year to year. The current 4/C class got a Dell model of some sort along with a monitor. The TI-84 will be fine for the school year, but the packing list for Swab Summer will list a lower model. Basically, I think they don’t want something that can save formulas for the math placement test. But again, it’s all on the list. We mailed my son his TI-84 toward the end of Swab Summer so he’d have it for classes. For Swab Summer, you really just want to stick to the list.

As far as calculator goes, the TI-84 will work for the time being. Calculus classes at the Academy are all non-calculator, so it doesn't matter from that standpoint. If your daughter is planning on studying engineering, it may seem like a long way down the line, but during 1/c year she will take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. They have a very specific list of calculators that are allowed for the exam. The more comfortable you can be with that calculator and all it's functions, the better. Would recommend any engineers start looking at one by the start of 2/c year at the latest.

Thank you for the responses.

She's declared MES as preferred major with NA&ME as 2nd choice. To your point, lots of time to figure out allowed calculator for later years.
