We are driving to Denver for a soccer tournament this weekend. I am taking my son early so we can tour the Academy. It looks like we will have to take the self guided tour on Friday. Is there anything we should know before we arrive? This will be my son's first time to see mountains.

Thanks

I am not terribly familiar with the self-guided tour, but I would suggest contacting the Visitor Center. They will be able to give you some good advice about this.

I would also suggest changing your username, immediately, to something other than your email address. If you message TacticalNuke (forum admin), he will be able to help you with this.

Hope you all have a great time this weekend. Good luck to your son in his soccer tournament!

Agree with wildblueyonder. The visitor's center is an excellent place to start. It has a lot of history about the beginnings of the Academy, with pictures and displays. They also have a
continuously running movie in their auditorium that gives you some great background on USAFA. There is also a gift shop with lots of apparel, books, videos, coffee cups, etc...You could
easily spend a couple hours absorbing all the information they have to offer. It's also a "fairly" short walk over the hill to the Academy grounds where you'll end up near the Chapel.

Thank you, we will be there at 9am Friday morning. We have all day, so it should be great.

Can self guided tours get into the cadet area?

Also, has anyone been in the new leadership building?

It's grad week at USAFA now -- Ring Dance for the C2Cs Friday night.
Will have lots of 2016 family members roaming around

And a little birdie told me there will be a 2 ship of C-17s fly over on Sat and another on Sunday. ;) I may be a little biased, as well.

We toured today. My son loved it! We may go again tomorrow if the weather is better.

The house we have rented for Grad week is off of Briargate and the back yard looks down on the airfield. Looking forward to the fly overs as well as the Thunderbird practices on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
