My DGD is a member of the CO 2025. The posted USMA 2021-2022 Calendar lists Sat., Aug. 14, as the date for the Acceptance Day Parade. Do you know if there will even be an hour or two to see my soon-to-be plebe afterwards? (Apologies if I have messed up terms or am asking a foolish question. I am a brand new member of the forum and this is my first post.) Thx.

Yes usually we get 2 days with family. However cadets have to be back at a certain time each night, I think 1 A.M. is TAPS

Sometimes you can sneak in a little time on Friday afternoon/evening (although not usually--you just might have a sneaky cadet); otherwise they are released to be with family & friends after the A-Day parade--you will arrange a time and place to meet with you kid; he or she will have his phone back the week prior. People often meet at a statue or a monument. (Getting a picture of that first hug is tradition!). Then you have your kid until late late at night. You can pick your cadet up early on Sunday morning. It is important to recognize that the first day of school is Monday. So, you might get your kid early, go lunch, go shopping, he or she might nap or whatever, but your cadet may wish to get his or her head in the game and organized for the first day of school. We would normally take off around 2 in the afternoon for the drive back to DC.

It is such a great weekend! You will be so happy & proud!

Edited to share: If you had to pick between R-Day and A-Day. Pick A-Day...this is where you see your cadet and spend time with your cadet. It is a celebration!

Thank you so much for the information! Will I be able to take my plebe off post Saturday? If yes, how many miles away? (We are thinking about staying at the Crowne Place in Suffern.) We will be approaching WP from the west. Where do you stay in the area when visiting? DGD would need to be returned to post by say, 10 pm? Then could pick up again Sunday morning? Maybe go to church and then eat on post, Sunday? I want to give her time to rest before first day of classes. BTW, I grew up in NoVA.

When I go to post I stay at the Thayer because 1) drinks at the Zulu Time lounge overlooking the Hudson is my happy place & my cadets can walk there, and 2) I like to be inside the Thayer Gate because I hate sitting in traffic & I like being close enough to walk to events on post. I booked all of the rooms for my cadets (2016 & 2021) on each of their R-Days...and while it was terribly, terribly expensive, it was set & settled and I never had to think of it again. That said, I think the delivery time is even later than 10 p.m...it might be 11 or 1 or something like that. Yes, you can go to church & then get lunch or brunch...but she might want to nap again or go to Woodbury Common or just do a Target run or go see an early movie at the Pallisades Mall. In a normal year, they can go as far as NYC--so you can tour Time Square and all of that--if she is not too tired and hungry or need to do laundry. I have heard there is a lot of laundry washing but neither of my boys ever wanted to spend time washing clothes. Be sure to bring shorts & a tshirt for her to lounge around in your hotel room & nap. You will see lots of people on FB posting pictures of their cadet sleeping on A-Day. They are exhausted...

Edited to add: if you do Facebook at all, you might consider joining the WP Moms page, the official Class of 2025 Parents page, and the Proud Mother of Female Cadets page (or something like that..help me out @shock-n-awe

OK...so where you are staying is REALLY FAR. A lot of people do that....but you are still going 45-50 minutes each way. (Also, if you are staying there for the pool, don't bother--most years USMA releases a statement that the cadets are not allowed to be seen in swimwear or anything other than white over gray when outside of the hotel room...so no swimming--total bummer.)
I don't know your family or your circumstances. That said, there is a great Hampton Inn in Central Valley/Woodbury Common and there are other closer places that are not ridiculously overpriced. A lot of people like the Holiday Inn Express in Ft Montgomery (don't stay anywhere else in Ft Montgomery, please...or in Highland Falls). You might also look for an AirBnB.

This year might be a very good time to go with the Woodbury Common area. Prior to COVID, the Outlets attracted many many visitors with a lot from overseas with many busloads coming in from NYC. The hotels, etc got a lot of play from that but now as the pandemic is waning, they are just not getting the foreign tourists and for that matter not a lot traveling from within the US as of now. As things open up more, they will probably see more activity but the international tourists won't probably be back this year so it should be easy to get reservations. (We were just there last week and talked to some folks in the area)

We really enjoyed Aday. After the parade we were able to get our cadet and pamper her! For the weekend she had a massage and a Mani/Pedi. We went shopping and enjoyed a lot of meals. Oh did I mention they sleep a lot? Every car ride she would sleep usually within minutes. Also spent a good deal of time watching her sleep in the room. I think she took 3 showers a day while with us and lots of naps in between outings. I loved hearing all of the stories...she was not a writer so this was the first we had heard about her summer at beast and it all just came flowing out.

Thank you, everyone for all the advice. We switched to the Holiday Inn Express in Fort Montgomery. Appreciate you helping this neophyte!
Glad you were able to get into the Holiday Inn Express Ft Montgomery. My most discerning friend always stays there--so I know it is nice. I think you are set with a great list of recommended things to do while in that area. No one mentioned going for walks at Bear Mountain Park or going to the little zoo at Bear Mountain Park (filled w/ injured local animals)...It is a lovely area of the country.

The archeology site at Fort Montgomery is a favorite of ours. A good friend was one of the staff archeologists who uncovered it and we were at the dedication.
