For those of you that mailed in your acceptance packages with your birth certificate and ssn card, did USCGA send you an email or any sort of notification to let you know that they received your package, documents and decision?

No they did not.. My DS followed the recommendation of sending it certified mail.. I also had him follow up with a call to admissions to make sure they received the packet. They confirmed its receipt. But very interesting on the lack of communication on some of these things.

Thanks for the reply, I'm going to call them today, I tried to call admissions a few times on Friday, but I couldn't get through, kept going straight to voicemail/automatic response.

I'm just guessing from your initials, we only have one KLC in the class, but I believe we processed your acceptance paperwork on Thursday...you can send me a private message if you want to confirm.

OK, I ran into a snag at the post office just now. When I presented one of envelopes included in the appointment folder and asked to have it sent by some "traceable" method, I was informed that they cannot "add" any services to that envelope, that I had to have a different envelope with a DIFFERENT ADDRESS if I wanted to trace it. I checked the Academy website, and sure enough, the last four digits of the zip code (after the main five digits) IS different on this envelope than on the website. The post office assured me that "What they want you to do is just throw this envelope in the mail just the way it is." I am having a hard time "just throwing" an original birth certificate and original, signed Social Security card in the mail without special handling and confirmation that it is received, especially when we are now a week from May 1. (Feeling guilty now about postponing signing so we could make it a celebration.)

Should I:

1) use the envelope provided without traceable method;
2) insert the envelope into another envelope using the same zip code and a traceable method;
3) insert the envelope into another envelope using the alternate zip code and a traceable method?

What did people do on here? Or is this a local post office "issue"? Who'd have guessed mailing an envelope would present a problem???

I put it in a certified mail envelope from the post office with the exact same address as on the white envelope. If you're super paranoid like I am, add a return receipt. Total was about $12, but worth it in peace of mind!

I actually used the envelope provided and the post office sent it registered, it did charge for the service, but we were able to trace it to the minute that it arrived in the CGA's mailroom. (I think that it cost around $5)

Thanks, Elmtwigs and Thumper.

Our post office wouldn't register it in THAT envelope nor in a different envelope with THAT address (by this time she was all in my business), so I sent it UPS with the same address as the envelope (that lady actually copied the address directly from the envelope with no drama).

If the same address worked for Elmtwigs and the USPS police didn't descend upon them, then it will work for us, too!

I went to FedEx instead and put the envelopes in a large envelope that could be tracked.

Sounds like you had a disgruntled postal worker. Good move to go to UPS!

I am a really paranoid mom since we have had mail stolen before. I put the white envelope into an express USPS and used the address on the white envelope with no problems. It was not cheap to mail overnight, $23, but i knew it would make it. I did the same with the fingerprint forms.
