Acceptance Rate?

I will clarify my DS's situation.

Everything else is completed, and he is qualified (3Q), with an LOA in hand.

In his case, am I correct in understanding that he only needs to be "on the slate", and one of the 10 nominations for any of the 3 MOC's he interviewed with?

Thanks.
To receive an appointment, correct. And then remain physically, medically, and academically qualified and keep everything else in check until summer :)

Thanks Dadx4!

I hadn't realized how complicated the nomination process is, until I actually read all the great info on these forums.

Was hoping that I had understood correctly, as it appears being 3Q with an LOA takes off some of the pressure associated with a nomination (ie, one only has to make the cut to be on the slate, and not be designated as the top candidate, or "win the slate".

Based on what I have read, we are just hoping that our MOC's don't assume that because our DS has an LOA, that he will be able to get a nom elsewhere, and not nominate him......

If he received an LOA, I'm sure he will compete well for a nomination!

The slate is the noms given to the SA. If your DS is on a slate, he has a nom.

There is pressure for an LOA to get a nom. Without it the LOA guarantee goes away.

Yes I think this is absolutely true. Although if a competitive district has more than ten great candidates with similar stats ...

Hence my statement: "takes off SOME of the pressure associated with a nomnation"

We don't think we are home-free yet. But I would be more worried if he didn't have an LOA, and had to compete to win a slate, and then wait until April to know......

What pressure does a 3Q LOA with a nom have? Other than continuing academics and not getting hurt?

The timing of offers and ports updates and nervousness about it is self created.

I think you are all good. ;)

If I read correctly, no nom yet

Correct.

Interviews were the week before thanksgiving.

We emailed one of the contact points a couple of weeks ago, and were told that the nominations for all of our MOC's would be announced "no later than the end of next week" (meaning THIS current week).

My wife has done more reading on the nom process than I have, and she believes our state MOC's "talk to each other" to spread the nominations more equitably, and she also believes that they do NOT use the method where they designate a "top candidate".

My DS feels that his interviews went well, so we will see.

I spent alot of time preparing him for the interviews (have a fair amount of experience over the years, when I was an enlisted soldier I competed for soldier and NCO of the quarter and year boards, and promotion boards to E5 and E6, plus professional school interviews in my second life).

DS is also an Eagle Scout, and I think his Board of Review experience, etc, was helpful.

@Bubby'sDad, you wouldn't happen to be from NV, would you??

My DS, yes!!! You north or south?

Howdy!

was trying to send u a PM so as not to hijack the thread, but I can't seem to figure out how?

We are south. you?

Is your DS also waiting on a nomination? Did you apply to USAFA also? any other academies?

my DS only applied to USAFA.

You likely can't to a PM since you're new. You have to have posted a certain number of times before you're gifted the privilege. :) We are north. DS has MOC for USAFA but awaiting on senators. Were told this week will be the week! Also applied USMA and USCGA. Congrats to your DS on the LOA!!!! My son does not have one and needs a waiver.

Does this mean you heard back from your Representative MOC, and your son got a nomination?

if so congrats! when did he hear?

I'm actually surprised it is taking so long to get an answer. Seems from this forum, that many people found out from their MOC's a week after the interviews. Our interviews were over a month and a half ago. (to be fair, I think the offices were closed about half of that time for thanksgiving, xmas, new years)

IMHO, in most circumstances a MOC will find a way to get someone with a LOA on his/her slate unless the candidate gives them a reason not to (poor interview, doesn't fill out application correctly or on time, late for interview , etc). I'm sure it does happen, but more often than not a LOA will give you a higher than average chance of a nomination from one of your MOC's.

DS saw a nom posted on his USAFA portal on 12-3 from rep! Yes, seems like a long time. Looking at past years, however, these two senators took longer than the previous ones. I'm confused how they coordinate, however, as it seems you are. Rep said they rank. Not sure for the senators.

Moderators, hopefully you can transition our conversation over to the nominations thread! Sorry!
