Acceptances for Summer Seminar Out

holy cow, he has already received acceptance notifications for each summer session at each academy?
Yes, he applied in Jan for AF after semester grades and PSAT scores were out and then very early, like in the first few days, to both USMA and NASS so I think that's why he's heard back from them already.

I got my acceptance letter this week and got a Feb/March CVW invite as well but the letter went to my spam and didn't see it until to late. But I did attend the November CVW so I wasn't too bummed. I am going to Session 1. I also applied the day the applications open and was surprised to hear back so soon. I did get into USAFA Summer Seminar June 19-24th. Just waiting to hear back from West Point and everything should be great. Super excited!

Congrats on the acceptance. Now make sure you start to train for the CFA, which will be administered at NASS and will become a part of your file.
How should we train? i am pretty in shape but way nervous for the CFA. Any advice?

Best way to train for CFA is do the entire thing in sequence with timing and standards in place 1x a week. The other days, work on upper body/core strength and running. B-ball throw might be tricky, just do practice throws regularly (youtube it), also shuttle run - work on turnarounds...those are usually where you lose time.

Last year I received my rejection during the first week of April, so I concur with Padre101 that you will know if you are rejected in April at the earliest.

Ouch. Are we talking only NASS in this thread? DD got her Summer Session rejection (Air Force) a few days ago (don't know how early/late she applied though). If we're only talking NASS in this thread, my apologies. If we're talking all Summer programs, and she got the rejection so quickly, what can we read from those tea leaves; what does such a quick Summer rejection imply for regular admissions/appointment???

Yes, this is a NASS thread. Your DD's rejection indicates nothing about her chances in the appointment process. Search this forum and you'll find tons of people who say they got appointments after rejected from SLE, NASS, AFA SS, and/or AIM.

I totally agree. I received an appointment after being rejected from NASS. NASS/AFA SS rejections are a temporary blow....you feel bad for a few days, but then get right back after it. The most valuable thing I've learned through this entire two year process is to NOT try and read into everything. It only causes unnecessary worrying. My new outlook is to do everything I can possibly do, then let the cards fall as they may.

DD did CVW January 2015 and NASS 2015. CVW is indeed free except for transportation costs. Potential candidate is called a "drag" and 4/C is assigned as "dragger". In DD's case, dragger and her roommate were both D1 athletes and did not have a normal schedule (one up super early for practice; the other up super late for practice). They were both nice enough, but DD did not get good flavor for what life would be for a regular plebe. She was able to attend a couple of classes, but didn't take part or witness any formations or fitness routines. This experience probably greatly depends on "dragger" assignment. It was crazy cold and, overall, the dreary days of winter seemed to make the mids less-than-enthused about life at the academy.

For DD, NASS was much better experience because it gave a better feel for academy life. While there's not much academics at NASS, you do attend seminar-style classes in your areas of interest, and you get a bit of an idea of what it's like to be part of a company.

That was a great write-up of how the conventional wisdom of CVW-is-more-accurate-look-at-cadet-life doesn't always pan out.

Thank you for those words!
"...you feel bad for a few days,..." - Word.
My kid is just coming out of those few days...I'm trying to get her re-oriented on the deep fight but it's hard to do at the moment she just got back inside the wire from the close fight and hasn't yet replenished ammo...

Like above, I dragged back in November and even though I tried to have a good attitude about it because I really wanted to be there, my weekend was awful. My dragger and her roomate were never there. I got tossed around a lot and spent 5 hours just sitting in Bancroft because all the plebes went to a play and left one of the youngsters to drag sit all of us (we weren't allowed to go because we didn't have tickets) so CVW isn't always the best insight to what academy life is like.

Sorry to hear your awful experience. I recommend checking the events scheduled on USNA.edu before picking/committing to a particular weekend.

For CVWs in the fall: Is there a football home game? A formal parade? A Brigade concert? 2/C Parents Weekend? Any special sport event? Will it be super crowded and affect (positively or negatively) your overall experience?

DS was lucky: he got to enjoy classes and went sailing with his Plebe.

Haha, yep, sounds like my CVW, but I was so happy to be there it didn't matter. I literally colored pictures in the library for a couple hours one night. It would've been good if I knew a plebe (and her schedule) so I could've chosen my own. You get what you get I guess. The one good thing is I was able to pick more than just 1 brain as I was shuffled around.

Still no NASS invite for me yet, but I'm not feeling too bad since I was invited to CVW before the apps even went out. I'm going to USAFss and SLE though. I wonder if there will be another wave of NASS acceptances or is that it?

I heard people get acceptances to NASS as late as April. Some waitlist people heard just a week before the first day of their session.

This will be good practice for all of us when we go through the "real deal" nomination/appointment waiting game.

Son still has not heard either. He was invited to CVW but couldn't go due to varsity track meets. Son will be at USAFA summer seminar session 2. Hang in there! He too is awaiting another wave of. NASS acceptances.
