My congressmen's office just called saying I have been directly accepted to USNA!!!!. I received acceptance to NAPS 2 months ago, and I was ecstatic with the decision when I looked at my AP Calculus grade and my mediocre SAT/ACT scores.

I feel I could really benefit with a year at NAPS, but now that I have the option to go directly into USNA I am wondering what will be the most beneficial in the long run?

:confused:That doesn't exactly sound right....
I think you should double check your info.

Accepted to naps/usna

I agrree with NEOSEEKER 99. I would think you would get offical notification via US Mail or other source. If you really think you need the extra year at NAPS, by all means do it.

Good luck, God Speed,

It sounded odd to me, but I talked to someone in the admissions office and she spoke directly with the academic dean. I have the choice between going to NAPS or going directly into USNA this summer. ( I will be getting my direct admit offer in the mail soon)

I know I am capable of going straight into the Academy, but I question whether going directly in is the right choice for me. A year a NAPS would strengthen me more academically. Then when I am actually at the Academy I will have more time to be in a leadership position or a extracurricular that will help me overall develop into a better officer.

My question is whether people that have gone through NAPS think the extra year of prep would be worth the time if they were in my position?

I would take the direct admit just because if they offered you a direct admit, then they should feel you would succeed at USNA. Plus, when it is 2014 and the seniors are graduating, you may or may not think "dang, i could be commisioning right now!" and thats $30k of pay youre missing out on. Thats just my opinion though, definitely do what you feel would be better.

Son, there's no guarantee that you will get an appointment to USNA out of NAPS. Today, you have that bird in your hand.

I communicated with a few people who whet to NAPS and they all said to skip it. USNA 2014 here I COME!!
