Got an e-mail from Capt. Tugman the other day saying that I was not only accepted, but that I was the first applicant accepted for the c.o 2013!!!!!

I am just ecstatic! Last year, I wasn't really sure whether I'd get accepted or not and now I am and the first one and I'm getting an LoA to West Point which I never thought would happen. Like, it wouldn't be so cool, except that I know I'm not a natural genius or a super athlete or anything, but I worked my rear end off for this! And that's what feels really great: knowing that I worked for it. So, whether anyone reads this or not, it doesn't matter, I just want to shout out that I got something that I worked really, really hard for.

There, I'm done so you can stop wasting your time reading someone's rants:wink:

Eagle, when did you complete your application? Just curious about timing, meaning how long it takes them to decide...

Eagle, when did you complete your application? Just curious about timing, meaning how long it takes them to decide...

VMI didn't start accepting regular decision applicants until Dec 15. If that helps...

yeah I sent my application in about nov. 15 and have not heard from them. However, i chose regular decision and not early decision, so Im hoping that's why.

I wouldn't worry about it. Well, to be more accurate: I would have worried about it, but here's why you shouldn't. This is straight from the Admissions Office page on the regular website:

Decisions: Applicants meeting the November 15 deadline for early decision will be notified no later that December 15. Beginning January 1, on a rolling basis, decisions will be made on all applications for regular decision and those applicants deferred from early acceptance. A waiting list may be necessary.

Exams ended on December 20th. All of the academic and administrative offices were closed for the holidays from Dec. 20th until today. My guess is that they'll need a few days to sort things out before they start mailing acceptance letters. I received a phone call from the Director of Women's Admissions to tell me my acceptance letter was in the mail, but that's because I had a really good working relationship with her (they aren't joking when they say it's a good idea to cultivate a relationship with your Admissions Officer :thumb:). With well over 1000 male applicants per year, it's a lot harder for their Admissions Officers to call each individual to notify them before they receive their letter. Sorry, guys!

Admissions at VMI are rolling. This means, simply, that it's first come, first serve for the attention of the Admissions Officers. As long as you meet the requirements set by the Director of Admissions (this may vary slightly from year to year depending on the target numeric goal for incoming rats), you will probably be accepted. But if 150 people got their applications in before you did, you can probably bet that they'll be lookin' at 150 applications before they get to yours.

If you applied for early decision and you still haven't heard anything, you might consider contacting your Admissions Officer to find out what's up. They should notify early decision applicants regardless of status (accepted/deferred). Even if you get deferred for early decision, I wouldn't worry too much. I know a number of cadets who were deferred, but then got accepted for regular decision. The only difference between the two is that you can still change your mind if they admitted you for regular decision. However, it wouldn't hurt to call your Admissions Officer and let 'em know you're still interested even though you were deferred for early decision.

Hope this helps.
