Last night a received an email notifying me I was selected for a Type-7, 4 year scholarship. The deadline to accept is May 31, but I’ve read that it’s recommended to accept ASAP. I also applied to USAFA, so I am waiting for a decision. So is it recommended that I accept now, and if I do am I committed to the scholarship? Can I accept now and what if I get into USAFA after already accepting the scholarship?

Sometimes the units offer tuition assistance and that paperwork is due sooner than May 31. My recommendation is to contact the unit you are most interested in (and or the one from the school you have been accepted to) and find out what paperwork they need for certain programs or special assistance. It seems that by submitting such paperwork you are not obligating yourself to the scholarship (in my experience), but always read carefully!

The scholarship is not binding. Accept it. If an appointment comes along you can inform AFROTC you will not be using the scholarship.
