Hi,
My DS received the 4 yr AROTC scholarship for which he is very grateful. He has to decide by March 1st. The question we have is he also applied for NROTC scholarship and has not heard anything from NROTC. Portal still says "no decision". He thinks he would prefer NROTC, but also has explored the AROTC and is ok with that branch as well. If he signs the AROTC scholarship and then NROTC also awards a scholarship can he switch to the NROTC option?
Thanks!

Yes, your son should go ahead and accept the AROTC Scholarship, if he does receive the NROTC Scholarship later and decides that is the path he wishes to take, he should then accept the NROTC Scholarship. He can take some time to weigh his options and then simply decline the offer he does not wish to take.

Congratulations to your son.

The scholarship officer over at UW has told me that I can just accept my scholarship now and then tell Cadet Command that I want to drop it if, for example, I get an Academy appointment.

Your son can probably do the same if he wants to go NROTC.

We knew he could decline for an academy appointment, but were unsure of declining for a NROTC scholarship. Thanks for the replies!
