As a newbie, just wondering how far in advance people book accommodation for commissioning week?

We would probably try to rent a house.

Though some people leap into making hotel and house rental arrangments during plebe year, in our experience with years of advising parents of our sponsor mids, the majority make arrangements during 2/C year. Annapolis Accommodations is one of the long-time go-to's for the house rental. We've known procrastinators or folks with unsettled family situations who were still looking at houses in April of the graduation year and still got a fine property. From the Naval Academy Alumni Assn corporate member info page:

Annapolis Accommodations – Lu Cotta, 410-263-3262 / 800-715-1000, lou@stayannapolis.com,
41 Maryland Ave., Annapolis, MD 21401 www.stayannapolis.com

They will walk you through how to weigh pro's and cons such as downtown vs. closer to stadium for Commissioning Day itself, parking, amenities, etc.

As an FYI, in terms of hotels, I was recently invited to this year's graduation. I figured no way would a hotel room be available at this late date or at least I'd have to pay for multiple nights. Not so. I had several good options (Westin, Loews, and others) for one night.

Not a house, I know. But an option that I didn't expect.

Thanks - I'll put that on hold for now - we still have so much to do to get ready for I-Day!!!

We booked in August before firstie year. Had a great selection of houses through Annapolis Accommodations. They get additional houses all the time so there is no need to rush into something. We were able to get a house that sleeps 10 in the Historic District just west of Main Street. Will be able to walk to the yard and to the Loews where most of the relatives are staying.

Also keep in mind the dates for CW can change. This year they have changed the dates for the Classes of '12 and '13. It was announced around Feb.

We also have added a few rooms at a DTA hotel (Loews) and had no problem doing so as late as March.

Where we did have a problem was booking some less expensive hotel rooms out near the mall. We did that in July and had very slim pickings.

My son's a 2/C, and in April, when I started looking for houses to rent for commissioning in 2011l, several of them were already rented, 14 months in the future!

Also a newbie. Commissioning Week - should you plan on being there for an entire week?
