I’m a reapplicant to the USAFA meaning I have been cleared medically as of last year. My profile just recently went under DoDMERB review for this cycle year, and I’m guessing I’m going to be clear again since I haven’t changed, but I have a question for those here (I am reaching out to DoDMERB tomorrow). My dermatologist recommended she put me on Accutane for my acne, and she told me it takes 4-5 months. I told her I’d think about it and would make sure it wouldn’t interfere with anything. I’ve read through a lot of the post on accutane that are on these forums, but I still don’t know what I should do. I’ve read that I’m DQ until 8 weeks have passed with me off of it, however if I do decide to go in it, I’d be off of it beginning of March/ April, and after 8 weeks it will be late may, majority if not all appointments are out. I can’t get an appointment unless I am medically qualified right? Should I risk getting on this medical procedure for the next couple of months, or should I just not get on it all? I’m calling DoDMERB tomorrow to see what they say.
Edit: I should add that I don’t have anything severe, just stubborn acne. Last year they asked me to submit photos of my acne and a week later I was cleared.

I have a current applicant on it. Same thing, mild stubborn. He received a remedial....needed the dermatologist to attest to normal blood work, and also estimated completion date. Which for DS is greater than the 6-8 weeks that I have also read that a person must be off. He was fully qualified after turning in his AMI’s. No DQ pending finishing his course of treatment.

Good idea to talk to your technician. Your window is closing to do a treatment course. But you may not receive a DQ at all.

Thank you, I will talk to them later today!

I would definitely not risk it this late in the process if you haven't even started it yet. If Accutane is a red flag, don't do it. By the time you get your remedial info in, the system might be clogged and move too slowly.

Yes you will have to take all things into consideration and make your own decision.
