Hi,

Has anyone who has gone through the ACL surgery and received a waiver provide any insight on the waiver process/how "easy"/how long it is to receive
I had my surgery in March 2017 - no pain and leg is stable. Any success stories/issues along the way would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

I had my surgery in March 2017 - no pain and leg is stable. Any success stories/issues along the way would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

My DS had 2 of them in HS, both from football, one his junior year, and then after being cleared, had another contact injury and had his second surgery during his senior year. Both injuries were surgically repaired, and both times he was cleared by his surgeon to "resume all normal and physical activities". The key for the remedial /waiver is to get your surgeon to put in writing that you are cleared to resume all normal and physical activities. I would assume the surgeon will also note "negative Lachman's test" and put the range of motion numbers. (You need to make sure this meets the requirements).

My DS second surgery was less the 9 months from his physical, so he was DQ'd. Since he was awarded a 4 yr HS scholarship (AFRTOC), it automatically went to the waiver process. Since yours has been more than 12 months ago from your physical, i do not think you will be DQ'd, others can advise on the exact DODMERB code is for that.

Make sure you get all remedial's completed ASAP, be prepared to get your medical records copied, including any pre/post surgery MRI's and X-rays, (in paper format to be emailed as an attachment). - Send this with the Surgeon's release statement that i explained earlier.

My DS waited about 8 months during the waiver process and finally received it a month after he was already in college.

As many others advised us, be patient with the process, each situation is different.
Thank you for desire to serve and good luck !

ACL reconstruction with no limitations or problems is not disqualifying 12 months after surgery.
