Acne medication

My son just went to the dr because he had acne. They prescribed him medication , is this something that he needs to report to dodmed ? Don't want him to get in trouble at I day for not reporting it. Thanks

He does need to report it...although I hope it isn't Accutane...that is a DQ, I did it a while ago...and it is a VERY rough med!

Second that on the Accutane, you don't want to mess up his medical status and I know that is one that is a DQ. At this point he is so close to I-Day you don't want to add any new meds without checking first. Not sure what the DODMERB letter states, but I think it used to state any change of medical condition or medications must be reported between DODMERB clearance and I-Day. I would almost wait it out until after the Summer and then he can make an appointment with USNA docs and they prescribe it. I wouldn't take anything until you know it is ok and doesn't put his appt in jeopardy.

Thank you for the reply . No it's a pill form called minocycline. So it's not a steroid .

Should he still report it since he picked up the medication but not going to start it? Do they ask for medical records ? He's an army dependent ? Going USAFA

What does his paperwork state to do regarding changes in medical conditions/medications and reporting it? Follow what is says. I would recommend holding off on starting anything until he gets the okay from DODMERB.

The other option is to not start it, take it with him to I-Day and show it to the docs when they do the quick screen and ask if its okay to start. Not sure how USAFA induction works, but at Navy you get one quick check on Iday to make sure nothing changed and if you had waivers to just validate them. I think mine was like 1 minute long but if someone was on meds they did check those.

Ds on tazorac (stronger that retin-a) and minocycline. Reported. No waiver needed at all. No worries.
