Hello,

I am taking the October ACT but am basically finished with my USNA application. Would it be wise to wait to submit my application until my scores have come out, or will they consider my new scores even if I have submitted my application earlier.

Also, I know that with NROTC your application continues to get looked at ever board meeting until the deadline. Is this the case with USNA, or once you get looked at once are you either accepted or rejected?

Thanks.

I believe there is a mechanism in place where they'll adjust your WCS even after the board evaluates you when they recieve new scores.

They will only review your file ONCE. If you are going to submit new SAT or ACT scores, please let your admissions counselor know and they will add a note to your file to ensure it doesn't get reviewed until the new scores are available.

How good are your current scores? If they will get you qualified then there is no reason to delay.

It is true that the board only reviews your application once but it is not like a traditional admissions board where they vote yes or no and a "yes" vote gets you an offer of appointment.

Think of the board more in the sense that it is qualifying your application and giving it a thumbs up to move to the next step which is competing on your nomination slates. Being approved by the board in no way guarantees an offer.

Where did you get this info? This is different than what I've always been told. I have been told that any significant change in your file, to include improved ACT/SAT scores would result in a re-evaluation of your file, as long as scores are submitted by 31 January.

You guys are confusing what the board really does. They do not sit around and say appointment/no appointment. They are basically qualifying your file and saying we "would" admit this individual and sending it back to admissions to see if there is a place to slot you. Just because the board qualifies you, it does not mean you will get an appointment. You are still competing against others on your nomination slate. You can send additions and improvements to your file and the admissions team will add them and change your WCS. These changes do not have to re-boarded.

You can be boarded without a DodMERB review. You may get approved by the board and not be medically qualified.

My current ACT super score is 33 with: 35 English, 35 Reading, 32 Science, and 29 Math.

The reason I am retaking is so I can raise my math score, which I know I am fully capable of.

I am already medically qualified and I have a presidential nomination. Of course, I am applying to my congressman and senator, but because I have the presidential, I would like to get my application in ASAP.

Any other thoughts? What would you all recommend I do?

I'd recommend you enjoy your senior year of high school. If you choose to take the test again, go for it. Personally, I don't think taking the test again is that beneficial to your overall application. I know others will disagree and I appreciate that, but academics is only one part of the equation.

I definitely understand what you mean, however, I have already signed up for the test.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Once again, to clarify, am I understanding correctly that if I score higher in the next test I take, even if my application has been viewed already, those scores will be considered?

Those scores are about identical to the ones that got me a TWE last year. They're very good and should be good enough to get you academically qualified, but depending on your slate's competition, it's possible they might not be good enough. As has been pointed out your WCS can be adjusted accordingly based on new scores that come in, and since they use the highest scores across exams, you have nothing to lose. Your current scores may well be enough to earn an appointment but, if you think you can do even better, take them! Especially with math, which is said to be weighted more heavily than the English section.

Of course, like Ravens said there are many other factors at play, but why leave any stone unturned?
