I was wondering if my ACT scores are competitive enough to be accepted into WP class of 2019. My super score is as follows: English 32, Math 23, Reading 34, Science 31, Writing 10- Composite 30.
I realize that I need to improve my math score, but if I am unable to improve it much is there still the chance that I get accepted into the academy? I also realize that there are other factors that play into admissions, but just want to know if my scores would hinder my whole application.

Others are fine. Definitely want to get that math score up. Questions, questions, questions. Then more questions. Set a goal. I think my DS averaged 30-40/day for 3 months prior to taking them for the sitting that got his math into the 30's. It worked out to about 3000 questions.

Look at this recent class profile. 17% of those accepted had a math ACT score between 21-25. So it is possible, but make every effort to move out of this group in order to maximize your chances. Demonstrating proficiency in math is one of the most important things that you can do. Heed Blackhawk's advice and practice, practice, practice.

If you are in a competitive area that math score is way too low. The only candidates accepted with Math ACT scores that low tend to be blue chip recruited athletes or underrepresented minorities. If you are not either of these then you will need to get that math score up to a 30. With any ACT score under 24, you will be considered an at risk candidate and unless you have some quality that few others have, then your chances will be slim.

Are you a recruited athlete? If not I would work very hard to increase your math score as I’m sure that small percentage of lower math scores go to either athletes or minorities.

I am being recruited for cross country and track. I’m most likely not the #1 recruit but I’ve run the times they are looking for and have spoken with the coach numerous times.

Just commenting on your ACT. Like others said, other sections are excellent. You know your Math weakness better than others. In the ACT Math, it provides detail breakdown of where you got many of your questions wrong. Begin working on those weaknesses right away. You can actually improve your Math to 32. In fact, that should be your goal. With Math 32, your Comp would be 33. You will need strong ACT Math for other competitive colleges and ROTC Scholarship.

Another way to look at this is if you are weak in Math, you will have a hard time at West Point or at any other SAs. All require strong STEM foundation and strong Algebra to do well in Cal, Chem, Physics core. You will want to be Math ready if you want to attend West Point. The worst case scenario would be that if the rest of your package looks great, then WP may select you to Prep School which might be a better alternative to help you get all your core classes ready in STEM for a full year. English and Math are the most important sections on ACT and SAT. Your Writing score of 10 is awesome! That is already at the Ivy Average and surpassed SAs average. I believe WP Writing average is 6 or 7.

Just keep working on your Math ACT by working on your key weak areas first. Keep taking practice tests, you can do it!

Also running well in the CFA is very important and looks like you can max the mile run based on your XC recruitment.

Thank you. I went to WP SLE this last week and passed the CFA with a 678. I believe my application is very strong in every area besides the math section, so I will focus my attention on getting that score up. I appreciate the help.
