I've looked but can't find the answer. DS took the ACT with essay option in Feb and even though scores are not out he wants to register for April test. Does he need to take essay portion again? Or can he submit the Feb test with essay and then new scores from April (assuming score is better but doesn't have essay portion)As a follow-up does he have to send all test scores?

Because West Point super scores, there is no need to take the writting again. With that being said unless he is at a 12, keep taking it. My best writting score came on my last ACT. Maximize your chances.

If he does not have the result of the previous test, my advice is to error on the side of caution and register for the test with essay.

There is no harm in sending all scores. Admissions will choose the scores that make his application strongest.

Wait, is the ACT different from the SAT then? Because both times I applied they were requiring the SAT with Essay for each one...

can take either.. 2 different companies so 2 different tests...

Nah I wasn't meaning like could you take one or the other, I was just meaning like standardwise (I didn't know you didn't have to take the ACT W Essay every time like the SAT required)

Son took the essay portion of both the SAT and ACT only once. He took both tests 3 times.
