Active Duty orders?

How far out should a soldier get orders for R-Day? DD is being put on the duty roster for June as she does not have orders. She has about 2 weeks of leave built up, so I'm assuming she should sign out about mid-June, so she should start ACAP/out processing 1st or 2nd week in June. She asked her S-1, but they have nothing.

Also, the instruction booklet states soldiers should hand carry their medical/dental with them to R-Day. Is it an issue that these items will remain "red" in the admit kit?

IIs your DD going to Prep School or Westpoint? I'm an active duty myseld and it would be nice for us to help each other out. I'm going to get my PCS order on Monday but the rest is stil a little bit confusing to me.

P/S: I'm going to prepschool though

Also going to the prep school in July, current enlisted. I got my orders a couple of weeks ago. She needs to hurry and get her orders. Tell her to really push the issue with her S-1. Sooner you get orders, more PCS leave she can drop (if she has it). Also if she's accepting a government-paid ticket through CWS you have to fax them your orders before you can get the ticket sent to you. K

Personally I'm going to hand carry the items that I'll have anyway. I don't see the point in sending something to them in the mail when I'll have it in my hand on R-day as well. So like the dental stuff, immunization and optometry stuff probably will not be sent in. I guess it'll stay red. When I call to ask no one can give me a set answer so I'm just going to do what I know (based on the instruction booklet).

If someone is doing something different or knows the right answer, please let me know lol.

She is going straight to USMA. I think she wanted and assumed she would go to MAPS first, but with her high school GPA, high ACT and a semester of college I think they felt the slot would be wasted on her.
I think this may be the issue. It seems everyone assumes she is going to MAPS which is a PCS, but USMA is an ETS.

Correct. I fought with my S-1 over this.

In that case, she can't take PCS leave. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I suppose it'll be ETS leave though?

Unfortunately her unit is deployed (she had to come back early for R-Day), so she is dealing with the rear detachment while also getting a bunch of details. There is an "Instructions for soldiers" link on her portal, but it has not been updated.
Yes, an ETS. So I assume they will make her do ACAP and such. She should get terminal leave plus travel, so she should probably already have her clearing papers much less orders.

Is there a specific POC in admissions who handles enlisted applicants? I would have her reach out to them for information and ask about orders. Call and email until she gets the answers she needs.

She texted me today that she was trying to get in touch with HRC.
I am surprised at this. The process is pretty straight forward for someone coming the normal route. For a soldier... not so much.

Yeah... it is complicated as heck for us soldier. @UHBlackhawk you should have your DD email Major Meyer (Lyndsey.Meyer@usma.edu). She is the Enlisted solider POC for the application.

@CL123: For the Police Record, is the MP good enough or do we have to do both MP and civilian side? This is my first time PCS-ing so I'm gonna need some help.

You should do civilian as well to be on the safe side of things. I went to the city surrounding my base and got it done. Just call the local PD and they should sort you out.

Do you also do your original home of record too or just where your base is? and how are you sending it (mail or hand carry)?

I have already gotten the MP and the Civilian side near my base. But having some trouble with getting it from my original home of record because they decide to mail it straight to West Point instead of giving it to my father. It's understandable but inconvenient as H

I don't think you'll need your home of record unless it's in a different state and you had some type of traffic violation or misdemeanor that didn't show up on the other checks.

I'm going to mail it in. Only things I won't mail in are the medical records as of right now

Thanks.

Another question, do you have the Admit-kit with the gray-repaid envelopes yet? I still haven't receive it.

As far as med/dental records...send them in so they go green and hand carry a copy as well (everyone does that because things get lost and we try to prevent getting double vaccines on Rday).

The instruction booklet does not make that clear. It just states for active duty soldiers to hand carry their records, which implies that is all they have to do. Probably should be changed.

I'm active duty and going straight to USMA as well, it will be PCS orders. I got mine a long time ago

I assumed it was an ETS since you get a DD214, don't get to keep your leave and are transferred into the Reserves. Did not know it was a PCS.

Well, HRC says they sent orders to her division. Her AKO account shows that she's been assigned to West Point, but her rear detachment S-1 knows nothing about it.
Surely there is a better way than to make a PFC shake the trees looking for orders.

Certainly. They should have this figured out, but she'll have to continue shaking trees. Same thing happened to me. Eventually she'll shake the right one and things will start moving

I've been hesitant to post anything more, but I'm afraid that my DD is not the first enlisted applicant to have issues. I would hate to be silent and have someone miss R-Day.
First, let me start by saying our DD is fiercely independent. Nearly the entire application process has been done on her own. Heck, she was playing D1 sports, on a ROTC scholarship and had a nomination for West Point, but decided to walk away from everything after one semester and enlist.
Second, she is a PFC. So when her NCO tells her to go do details, she says "Yes sergeant" and does the details.
Third, her unit is deployed so she is dealing with a rear detachment at BN and BDE level. She was sent back early from a deploying 90 days prior to R-Day kicking and screaming so she could out process and attend West Point, but she has been used for details ever since. I don't think anyone has asked the question, "Shouldn't you be getting ready to go to West Point next month?" She has asked this but has always been given the shoulder shrug.
My DW was able to find out through back channels that our DD missed two levy briefings, the first of them over a month ago. When we asked DD about this her response was, "What's a levy brief?" No one in her unit told her about the levy briefings. We also showed our daughter how to look up her ERB which shows her assigned to West Point effective 2 July.
So somewhere between her division and the NCO saying "Private, you need to attend a levy briefing tomorrow at 0800", there is a disconnect. Since she got this information from "mom", our DD refuses to share it with her NCO's as she might then face the embarrassment of explaining how she found out about the missed levy briefings. As it is she was irritated with us for getting into "her business".
Our DD is attempting to use her COC with the information from her ERB showing her assigned to WP. She also informed us that she received an email from someone at West Point asking for a POC number in her S1 shop and she is sending that number today.
It seems a shame that there may be soldiers out there in danger of missing R-Day due to a disconnect between West Point and an NCO saying "Soldier, go to a levy briefing." There probably should be some timeline posted on the portal for these soldiers so if goals are not met they will know something is wrong, as well as a POC at the Academy to help push this information down if there is an issue.
Sorry for the rant.
