Hi, I am active duty soldier who currently station in South Korea.
I enlisted on April 2019 and have 3 more years left. My DOB is 1996/04/27 (24yrs). Am I able to apply to usmaps even though I am 24 and have 3 more years left in the Army?

USMAPS does not accept applications. You apply to West Point and admissions then considers some of those applicants for USMAPS. The majority of those selected for USMAPS are enlisted soldiers and recruited athletes.

The biggest factor for you is that one of the admissions requirements is that you must be at least 17 and not yet 23 years of age on July 1 of your year of admission. Age waivers have been granted in the past. You should contact admissions directly for more info about getting a waiver.

The amount of time you have left in the Army does not matter - you would go straight into West Point or USMAPS. If you leave, you go back in the Army to finish your service commitment.

Check West Point's website for admissions information: westpoint.edu

From the website:

Information for Current Soldiers

Commander's Information for Soldier Admissions
Commanders have a critical role in recommending a soldier to West Point. Commanders are highly encouraged to view the "Information for Units and Commanders" document .

Soldiers who are currently serving in an Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard capacity are encouraged to apply to West Point to further their education. West Point is committed to helping qualified Soldiers reach their full potentials and secure commissions in the Regular Army.

Soldier Experience
West Point believes Soldiers enhance the Corps of Cadets, and we value the life experiences you have earned as a Soldier. If you want to be an officer in the U.S. Army, West Point will give you an excellent education and the training you need to lead Soldiers as you continue to serve.

How do I apply if I am an Active Duty Soldier?
The application steps are the same for Soldiers as they are for civilians who apply; however, Soldiers can obtain a nomination from their company commander and are automatically considered for the Preparatory School if not directly admitted to West Point.

I don’t think many age waivers are being given anymore, but you won’t know unless you apply. Too late for this year but start the process for next year. You will never get a waiver if you don’t apply.

I am currently at USMAPS as an Active Duty Prior. If you have any question, feel free to reach out. Also I am not sure how accurate the information that I received, but I have heard that someone received their age waiver because the soldier had previously deployed. Deployment sounds like a valid argument to me.
