Basic facts: DS is HS senior and been awarded 3-year army ROTC scholarship at his college of choice. However, he was diagnosed with ADHD in 2020, did some counseling and tried meds, but did not feel it benefited him so did not continue after Fall 2020. He functioned without meds and counseling. Has high grades and high test scores. Does not have IEP/504 but has used ADHD diagnosis to secure extra time for ACT and on exams for some college courses he has taken at a university nearby. On the whole, even though he has been granted extra time, he usually finishes within the regular exam timeframe and still received A’s/B’s in these university courses.
What are the key considerations that will be helpful or disqualifying when seeking a waiver? I know it’s case by case, but I have read it is less about the diagnosis itself but the reliance on medication.
Before embarking on the waiver process, I would like to understand what records and further evaluation may be requested as part of the process.
Thanks in advance.
