I have nominations to both West Point and the USNA, and everything seemed to be on track until I got an Administrative Remedial from DodMERB. It was concerning a cough that I had over a year ago which one doctor thought was asthema. His diagnosis was shocking because I had always been an active kid, and I had never had any lung problems. When I didn't respond to inhalers or any other asthema treatments, it became very clear that I had been misdiagnosed. I went to a specialist who realized that I had just had a bacterial infection in my lungs, and when I was put on the proper antibiotics my cough resolved. I have had no recurring problems.
I am currently in Army ROTC at the Virginia Military Institute, and I did very well on my CFA. My lungs do not inhibit me in any way. However, I am terrified that the DoDMERB will reject me on the basis of a misdiagnosis. Is there anything I can do to make sure this doesn't happen? Should I get my lungs tested by a doctor as proof of my health? I am willing to do whatever it takes to make this work!
