Admiral Joseph Stewart, former USMMA Superintendent passes away at 76

He was a very nice man who cared about the mids. I met him many times, and always got a kick out of his USMS uniform with his Marine Corps EGA tie bar.

I had the opportunity to speak with him on a couple of occasions and found him to be a very nice man indeed.. My son told me the midshipmen fondly referred to him as 'Joey D'.. My son also said that Admiral Stewart would always remember your name; even if you were just a lowly plebe..

He was a good man and got a raw deal.
I will never forget when he walked into the bar of the restaurant that we were having an Alumni lunch at in Mobile, Al. I looked at him and said, "I have always wanted to buy an Admiral a drink."
He looked at me and cracked a smile.
He said, "What a coincidence, I've always wanted you to buy me a drink. Whiskey will be just right."
He, a classmate of mine, and myself sat at the bar for half the "lunch".
