Ok so in the process, you have the number of applicants. for example lets say 10,000

then you have the people with official nomination so that cuts the list down to 3,200
then you have the people who get triple Q'd which is 2,500
then the offers of admission is 1,300

Ok so the people who are triple Q'd with a nomination for example was 2,500
how does the academy cut off people and break it down to 1,300 if the 2,500 are qualified in every way. what do they look at next for a criteria? also how do you get academically qualified?

thanks

In addition to the above mentioned questions - where or how does an LOA paying the mix?

of the 2500 triple qualified they will appoint by MOC district first (principal noms, if given are usually first). Well - actually, pres noms can go anytime so may be earlier than a princ nom. Once the princs noms are out they rank each remaining MOC slate and appoint by MOC based on merit of the candidates on that MOC slate. Once all MOC slates are done the remaining triple qualified are put in order of merit (based on a combination of academics/leadership/athletics etc) and fill up the class in order from that list. The pres noms are also put in merit order and filled concurrently as they compile the class. Make sense?

The numbers I've seen from past years don't match your numbers. It's about 13,000 +/- start an application, 3,800 +/- have an official Nomination, 1,800 +/- are offered an Appointment and about 1,300 +/- accept the Appointment. The triple Q'ed works in after the Nominations and then that list is shaken up from the medical waivers....I think....

Class of 2012

Nominated Candidates = 3,838

Nominated Candidates who were Triple Qualified = 2,196

Offers of Admission = 1,537

Realisticly only admissions knows the final detirmations of who gets in and who does not. It is not something you control so do not worry about it.

That said there would be two groups that would affect the final numbers
- % of Applicants that have an appointment and simply choose not to go
- % of Applicant that have appointments to more than 1 SA

Have no idea what those percentages are but combined they would amount to some type of number. Just food for thought.

Last year, there were 269 (18%) candidates who decided not to accept their USNA offer of appointment.
