Is there a statistic for total number of qualified applications vs total offers for admissions? Interested in how many actually go through entire application process.

Hoping Objee can respond to this. They will have all the numbers.

  • 225/300 - the average applicant PFE score

  • 84% in the top 25% of high school class
  • 100% in the top 50% of high school class

  • 80% plan to pursue a technical major

The class profile posted by THParent is based on 2000 completed applications. Admissions would have to note how many of those applications were actually qualified. And it does not address the number of applications started but not completed for whatever reason (realizing not qualified, fed up with the process, realizing this is not what they wanted anyway).

Thanks. I agree AuxNoob, knowing the details of the 2,000 would provide great insight into how many candidates were truly competitive for an appointment.

The exact numbers can vary significantly from year-to-year, but on average:
2,200 Applications Submitted (applicants hit "Submit" button)
2,000 Applications Completed (all required application items received)
2,000 Applications Reviewed (all complete applications are reviewed)
800 Applications Recommended for Appointment Consideration (fully qualified applicants)
310 Appointments Offered (full appointments; not including CGAS Program graduates or deferrals)
220 Appointments Accepted (not including CGAS Program graduates or deferrals)

What distinguishes a "fully qualified" applicant from a non-"fully qualified" applicant who submits all required application items? Based on the numbers presented, that appears to be the biggest hurdle. Are there minimum thresholds that make one "fully qualified"?

Concerned Dad here, trying to get my admissions math straight. I hope Objee or one of the Admissions Partners will correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am). A video posted by 2023Dad a few months ago said that roughly 750 interviews would be offered, and 10 percent of interviewees would receive an appointment. That's 75 cadets from the interview pool, or an overall admission rate of 3.75% among interviewees. That leaves the other 235 non-interviewed cadets offered appointments for an admission rate of 11.75%. It seems as though candidates offered an interview are competing with other interviewees and there is a statistical disadvantage to being interviewed, but being interviewed is better than receiving a flat rejection. So is being interviewed sort of like an admissions gray zone? Thanks in advance for clarification on the interview process.

Hey, Dadx4, not sure if this helps, because I am certainly not in the position to know, but if you open the "show more" at the bottom of that YouTube clip, you'll see that it's been updated that the 2019 admissions from interviews is about 50%.

Thanks mamabear. That clears things up.

For the Class of 2023 here are the numbers reported in the USCGA Alumni October Magazine:

Online Apps Received =2099
Applications Completed =1930
Appointments =392 (It does not say if these are "full" appointments or "conditional" appointments subject to passing medical, or if they include CGAS folks or not etc.)
Enrolled =279 + 5 International Cadets

39% Female
35% Underrepresented Minorities
87% Varsity Letter
68% Sports Team Captain
76% Intended Technical Majors
224 Average PFE Score

Of course these are just numbers, each applicant is evaluated individually. During this point in the admissions cycle, folks like to "chance" their odds to pass the time while they are waiting. I totally get that, just don't read too much into this, these are just numbers.

Each year every University seeks to increase the "numbers."

Good luck to all!
