Not Army, but have many close friends in the Army program. They recently just told me that Advanced Camp has been extended to at least 38 days and that Cadet Command will likely extend it as far as 44-45 days to give cadets more field and weapons handling time.

I’m curious to know what everyone else has been hearing about this change.

My DS just finished Advanced Camp in August.

He says that if everyone arrived at camp prepared, there would be plenty of time to cover everything in 30 days. However some cadets are not well versed in handling weapons, in particular the 240 and 249.

Apparently there were more than a few accidental discharges......which is bad. This is most likely a key reason for the extra weapons time.

I dont know if Air Force Field Training is the equivalent to Advanced Camp, but Field Training gets shorter every year. My son did it 3 summers ago and it was either 23 or 28 days. It is currently 18 days

It seems hearing from other sources that the rumor of a longer AC is something that is being looked at. I’m sure the Batallion Cadre will know more information as planning moves forward.

I would think that with as many Regiments go through in a summer that they would have to overlap more if they do extend the time so that everyone would get through by the time school started again.

I agree that everything can be covered in less than 30 days at AC. I’m doubtful that training will be over 30 days, that would mean cadets would qualify for type I BAH. Given the magnitude of the training event I can’t imagine every cadet going getting a month of BAH. Should be interesting!

It's actually 13 days right now, 14 if you count TD-0. I think the Air Force did a study or something with the previous classes of cadets, and they discovered that any shorter than 14 days would be too short to properly evaluate cadets, but longer than that is fine but the training value decreases significantly. There's both rumors that it's going to go back up to 18 days but also rumors that it's going to be shortened again, which doesn't really make much sense.

Just got word from my friend in Army ROTC. Advanced Camp is now officially 37 days with more classroom time added (Since apparently some schools don’t prepare their cadets well) and a grenade course.
