Hello everyone, I'm a 4/C Midshipman at Generic State University in the Midwest.

For some context, I joined because I really want to earn a commission, and am passionate about the Navy. I grew up building model battleships and have always wanted to join.
I wasn't selected for the four year scholarship, and because I'm a History major my odds of a three year are abysmal.
I've decided to pursue an advanced standing contract, so I'll be applying for it next year.

I have a few questions:
>My advisor told me Advanced Standing odds are about 50-50 nowadays. How can I improve my odds besides the GPA, which is an obvious factor
>I'm applying for Project GO this summer, if selected would that improve my odds?
>My advisor also told me that NSI is optional for me this upcoming summer, would that improve my odds of picking up Advanced Standing?
>Any other things that could help my odds?
>Haven't taken Calc/Physics but as far as I'm aware, Advanced Standing doesn't require those classes. We have a 1/C SWO select who also picked up Advanced Standing and didn't do either class.

Personal Info:
3.1 GPA first semester (I got covid and missed two weeks of class during midterms, that set me back big time. No excuses however, this number will improve)
(I got a 96 in Naval Science)
Perfect PRT. Max Push-Up (92), Plank (Max) and Run (7:55).
Good aptitude. I'm not at the top of my class but I'm in the upper half. Never in trouble, and I do all that's asked of me enthusiastically.

Thank you!

Just a couple things first. You understand that if you ask for advanced standing and receive that, you don't get any tuition or room and board correct? If you are seeking advanced standing to avoid calc and physics then I understand, but if not, wouldn't you at least want to try for your scholarship?

Secondly, please make sure to validate the idea that NSI won't be required for you. If you receive advanced standing, the expectation is for you to go to NSI at the first opportunity.

Project GO will not hurt you nor will it help you. GPA, Fitness, PNS recommendations are what matter. If your CO/PNS has interviews make sure you are prepared for that.

Thank you for replying. I understand that advanced standing won't pay tuition or room and board. The only goal is a commission. Partially to avoid calc/physics but that's just one of many reasons.

So about NSI, would it be better for me to just go this summer? Maybe it'll help my application in a year? What would you do if you were me?

As far as I was aware, Advanced Standing recipients aren't required to attend NSI as a rising 2/C but I guess I was wrong.

As for CO/PNS, I think I've done a good job so far this year when I've interacted with him. In the few interactions I've had with him, they were all very positive.

Thanks again

Can you clarify your others? I echo the sentiments of the CO above... my ROTC school consistently scores very high in getting college programmers a full or partial scholarship... the numbers are almost so high to the point it is redundant to even apply for college programmer.

For context, the current 3/c in my previous unit, all 5 who applied for scholarship, got it.
