I was nominated to USAFA by my congressman but not to USNA, my #1. My only chance now is NAPS or the superintendents/ vice presidential nomination which I know is very slim. It is unfortunate because I believe it was my SAT score that was the killing factor in my application (1130 out of 1600). I wish to be a marine corps pilot which is why I am undecided if I will take an appointment to USAFA if offered one. I’m slowly losing hope but not giving up. Is there any advice in the event that I decide not to go to USAFA, if selected, and reapply for USNA next year? I’m keeping my fingers crossed and praying for the best.

Get a SAT tutor and retake the SATs. Go to college and take a course load that closely mimics a plebe's class schedule. Work very hard and get the highest GPA you can. Find an activity, get involved and perform community service. Good luck!

There is no real "secret" to being successful as a re-applicant. You have to evaluate the weaknesses in your initial application, develop a plan to improve those areas and maintain the other areas.

Joining an ROTC unit in college will also give you a different nomination where you cn compete.

Apply to every nomination source, improve everything that can be improved, do your very best freshman year, and leave nothing undone or unsaid. That's all you can do.
