How wordy should the hobby and life goals section of the Vice Presidential nomination application be? Unlike anything else I've filled out, there is no character or word expectations attached.

Also, how liberal is the term hobby? Is this a chance to list some accomplishments and activities I do (ex: Girls State, AFJROTC, Var Tennis) or a geniune "fun" hobby?

Any guidance is appreciated.

I recommend succinctness and well-organized responses to the prompts, similar to other responses you may have submitted.

The SA Admissions staffs review these and choose the recipient(s). They have access to your complete application, of course. The VP has no staff that takes an active role in the review.

Keep in mind, for the DoD SAs that have a VP nom, there are only 5 appointments at each DoD SA that can be charged to the VP nomination authority at any one time, spread across 4 classes. That means 1, occasionally 2, are used each cycle, depending on how many cadets or midshipmen with an appointment charged to a VP nom graduated with the most recent class.

From anecdotal observations over the years, VP noms tend to go to candidates they desire to have in the class, but for whatever reason, were unable to obtain a nomination.

Be brief, thorough, complete, readable, flawless in grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. Avoid minutiae.

I am going to have to disagree slightly with @Capt MJ on their use. I will tell you that she is correct that the VP can only have 5 charged at one time but the nomination source can nominate 10 individuals for that one spot and those ten are typically used. This is one of those "found a nomination category". If you receive a nomination from the VP, you can then be appointed as a Qualified Alternate or Additional Appointee. Now in terms of completing the application, I completely agree on succinct and well organized. Reality is that your response on the application will not sway admissions unless they are really bad and these nominations are used for the "exception" to the process. You should not count on this.

Yes, exactly, thank you for expanding on that. I’m afraid I get down too far in the pedantic weeds sometimes, so I give just a top line comment.
