Advice on Buying A Car?

Not necessarily true. Most flight school students go months in between phases with nothing to do. I've seen a lot of good times/partying on Facebook from my flight school classmates

And growing their hair out.

I guess CG Flight School hasn't caught up with the Army as far as cutting back on bubble time. The Army Flight School used to have a lot more bubble time then it does now, they seem to be moving things along quickly these days. They only had one day between the end of SERE and the start of Primary, Instruments started the same week as their last Check Ride. It seems the rest of Flight school will follow that trend, what used to take from 18 months to 2 years is now taking around 14 months, not many breaks between phases anymore.

On the Car subject, if you do decide to buy something on the sportier side, remember the 11th Commandment, "Thou shall not buy an Automatic"

You may not be at sea, but you will be so busy at Flight School that you won't have much time to spend too much money except an occasional weekend trip when studying allows.

There are some nice beaches all around Mobile AL, and of course New Orleans is only a few hours away.

Son is still driving our old Excursion and is saving money for a new vehicle when he gets to his FTU base. He is keeping the Excursion up to that time to do a DITY move by renting a U-Haul trailer and pulling it to the new base loaded with everything he owns. The crappy gas mileage isn't really an issue most of the time since he lives on base and doesn't have to drive much.

He does say that having a "bus" for a vehicle is handy when he hauls his whole T-38 class to San Antonio or South Padre Island for a long weekend.

That old Excursion is a smart choice, my son probably came to that realization when he found out that the flat screen he bought wouldn't fit in the trunk of a Mustang. He doesn't drive people much once they get a look at the back seat, or lack of.

South Padre Island....I'm Jealous

My son and his buddies are heading from Ft. Rucker to New Orleans over Martin Luther King weekend....Jealous again.
