Advice on What to Do

Hello.

I'm looking for some advice on how to approach applying USAFA.

Context: My first application was for the class of 2024 and I was unfortunately turned down. I was bummed out but I pursued my Plan B until that fell through (in part because of COVID) too and I ended up attending a local university at the last minute. At this point, I also started my re-application for the USAFA. Initially during the fall semester I also enrolled in an AFROTC detachment as a cross-town cadet. However, a few days before the end of the semester I was dismissed on the grounds that my vision was unwaiverable. At this point I felt crushed and never completed my re-application with USAFA (and narrowly avoided failing my Calc class). I've spent the last few months trying to dig myself out of this slump and I want to try re-applying for the class of 2026.

With COVID I've managed to maintain decent grades at my university (but not perfect grades like I had in high school). As an added negative with all my classes being online I've only ever met half of my professors. I've tried staying on the radar by participating in classes (sometimes being one of the only people participating) but it feels like I haven't really made an impact. I tried looking into extracurriculars but COVID shut down the few existing clubs. Right now I'm in the process of trying to set up an AIAA student chapter at my university but it's likely to take a year (school bureaucracy) before anything concrete is set up. I've tried staying optimistic but COVID/Plan B falling through/being dismissed from AFROTC has all really beaten me down. I feel like the only thing that I have going for me is my persistence in applying after everything that has happened. I would appreciated any input that could be provided.

*This was originally posted in the USAFA thread but I was advised to post this here for more specific help.

The quick suggestion would be to review Mr Mullen's guidance on how to send him your specifics. He is the only one who can speak to the waiver-ability of a specific condition. At the end of the day, USAFA is the waiver authority and it is out of DODMERB's hands so to speak. They simply raise the flag that there is an incongruity with the regulation and the branch can sort it from there.
