I am currently an AS100 in AFROTC and one of my friends brought up the idea of joining the Air Force Reserve to get college paid for, and for other financial benefits. I was wondering if it was possible, or even smart to do so. What would be the pros and cons? What all would I have to do (Training, actual time being on a Reserve base, etc.)?

As a note, I plan to go into Security Forces as I already have a good background in law enforcement and a passion for it.

Thanks in advance for the responses!

I knew two people when I was in ROTC who joined the AF reserve to pay for college. Both of them ended up dropping out of college and never commissioned. It can be done, but you have to factor in the time spent at basic training, then at your technical school, and then serving some period of active duty at your first unit. By the time its all said and done, that can take over a year.
