Hello,

I have 2 years left of college and was wanting to join the Air Force. ROTC wouldn’t be an option for me since I was not wanting to do an extra year because i’m already going to be a 5th year. After I graduate I was thinking of joining AF OTS. Should I join the reserves before hand? If I can? How does that work?

Thanks!

Talk to your AFROTC detachment. You have options available, including AFROTC membership for your masters degree.

For applying directly to OTS, contact a recruiter. OTS boards can be tough and limited for civilian applicants.

And no, you don’t have to join the reserves in order to apply to OTS. You can apply directly for an Active Duty, Reserves, or ANG slot as a civilian. Your OTS package will typically be built and routed during your final year of school. Ask for and track the board dates, though. If you don’t submit in time to meet a board, you will generally have to wait for the next one.
